The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

The OSD settings is overdrive and the higher its set the faster the pixels will change. TFTCentral recommends keeping it set to normal for best results as extreme adds pretty bad overhsoot which will lead to trails/ghosting. Also make sure you have set your refresh rate to 144hz in nvidia control panel (cant remember if it defaults to that). If you press the turbo button (above the power button) is should say turbo 144hz on screen. (I was under the impression that this button was supposed to switch between the different refresh rates but it doesnt for me, just lets me know which refresh rate i've got it set at in nvidia control panel).

My settings fully calibrated are:

Colour Temp: User Mode
Red: 95
Green: 95
Blue: 100
Brightness: 24
Contrast: 50

That gives me a white point of 6505k with a brightness of 120cd/m2 which is what I like best. Any brighter and I find it way to harsh. I'm coming from a 1440p IPS and the colours while not as deep/rich are still very good in my opinion. Much much better then my old benq 11t which was horrible.

i had the same settings too except my brightness was 25

i further changed some settings in the NV control panel and ive finally got the blue of the OcUK forum looking great

ive been here so long that i always use the forum blue to calibrate all the different displays ive had

and of course Lagom

still kind of disappointed with the OSD options tho my BenQ had more choices i wish i didnt have to further tweak using the NV control panel
Thanks guys...

I received my Asus ROG SWIFT today and am trying your settings now...;)

Thinking about getting a 970 I've currently got Hazro HZ30Wif 30" LCD Widescreen Professional Monitor - Black - will this big a big upgrade?

I wouldn't upgrade from a pair of GTX670 4G cards to a 970, get 2 970s or you won't see any noticeable improvement.

Yeah one 970 will give you around the same performance as two 670's in games with good scaling, obviously you'll save a fair bit more power, less heat and noise. Two 970's and a swift is a £1k upgrade though.

The Hazro is IPS so you'll see a reduction in colour reproduction probably.
Ok, cool. Thanks

Really? Hmmm, ok I might hold fire for a bit then, thanks :)

Would you say it would be a worth while £1k upgrade?

Tash, i have one and i'm driving with a single 680. it's well worth the upgrade, even with a pair of 670s.

best piece of kit i've had and i have had a lot of screen in the past year.

i did this exact upgrade a few weeks back from sli 670 and the hazro, to sli 970 and the asus rog.. overall I am pretty happy - the performance of the graphics cards are great (and they overclock easilly, even with the current voltage bug in SLI) and has been fine at 2560x1440 in all the games i have played

Having G-Sync or ULMB available is the real bonus (most games I am using gsync, but for wasteland 2 and battlefield 4 I am using ULMB) for me (along with the 144hz refresh rate). The reduction of motion blur in battlefield 4 (for example) makes for a great improvement to the experience for me. Response times of the monitor I havent really noticed much difference - the hazro was already pretty good.

the only downside of this migration is the colour reproduction and gamma settings of the monitor are poor compared to the hazro - after much fiddling, I am now running at 20 brightness on the monitor, 0.78 gamma in nvidia control panel and with an adjusted ICC profile and find for gaming the colours are fine now and match pretty well with the 24 inch dell IPS display I have next to this screen now. Gaming is where the monitor works best - its fine in windows too but if you dont spend 80% of your time gaming, you are better off with the hazro!

I actually prefer the size of the screen over the hazro as I always found that rather too big for using on a desk - difficult to take in the whole screen when playing FPS etc. I also got pretty annoyed with the amount of heat the hazro put out, and can happily report the rog is nice and cool.

Don't you find the tearing really bad on BF4? I found it was really noticeable when I switched to ULMB after using GSYNC.

No I don't really notice a problem with tearing in BF4 - I think the big improvement in motion blur/ghosting makes up for the tearing - I know some people find the tearing more off-putting than others though!

Hi lads,

Just a quickie. I recently built a new pc involving the asus rog swift and a zotac gtx 980and I can't get signal in the monitor (i do on tv via hdmi). Unfortunately I do not have access to another displayport monitor or another pc or laptop with displayport. I would like to know if when the rog swift is connected to the mains but your pc is off or displayport is disconnected. Are you able to see the menu of the rog swift on your screen?
thx
J

(if you do and I don't I'll have to rma...)
thx

No I don't think mine did display it with nothing connected.

When I turn the monitor on (before I boot the PC) I get the ROG logo and then a No Signal box.

Curious to know if anyone is rocking 3 of these swifts as a triple screen setup. I bought my swift about a month ago and I can only dream/imagine what three of these bad boys would look like. Bezel is thin enough not to be s distraction too.

Eventually I do want to get three but wondered whether 2 780tis in sli will be sufficient to justify it (I already have one 780ti otherwise I'd just get a couple of 980s).

Just a quick update to say I found some speakers that fit my small desk. They are creative t10's and fit under the monitor fairly nice. More importantly they sound so much better than the cheapo ones I was rocking before :D

I had this (not with 980 though), make sure the cable is fully inserted into the back of the monitor. This blagged me for about an hour before I realised it was like 2mm out of the connection.

This monitor is so tempting :p

I currently have a Benq XL2411T and a crappy 2nd monitor,

Is G-Sync/higher Res worth it? Idk, or get a decent IPS second monitor? (Or both :D ). I have no local shop I can see for myself but most people seem to love it, just is it worth £600+ when I already have 144hz.

People seem to think it will come down in price significantly next year/more options for gsync monitors so idk.

I just changed the DP cable as I was getting connection problems...
I seen quiet a few people posting that has had problems with the supplied DP cable...

I recommend owners don't use the DP cable that comes supplied with there Asus ROG SWIFT and buy a better quality one..
