The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

I was playing Ryse over the weekend, this is the first time I've really used GSync much (gone from AMD to 980 SLI) and developed an awful headache after a few hours. Hopefully a coincidence....
I found switching super sampling off made it a much smoother experience I thought ryse was a gorgeous looking game on this screen even with the SS switched off

I'm hovering on the purchase button of this now, if only i clicked it when it was on offer :( Can anyone confirm from overclockers if it will go down to that price anytime soon??

I must have had terrible luck or can just see the imperfections many cant, had two and sent both back due to interlacing/crosshatch/inversion or whatever you wanna call it, once i saw it it was there all the time :( completely non existent on static images/desktop but once the screen started moving it was really off putting. it was most easily visible when white smoke was on the screen contrasted against a darker colour, the starting 2 mins of ethan carter for example looked way worse on the swift at 1440p than on my old 1080p 120hz monitor, also 3d vision genuinely looked interlaced (no hyperbole)

gsync was awesome though and i miss it, it's the first piece of pc hardware i've ever sent back and i was gutted as it's the exact spec i want, honestly no idea what to buy now, will wait for the benq with the same panel or if not try the acer 4k

This is the way it is, you have to remember, there is no processing on the Swift, it would never run as fast if there was.

Can anyone recommend some small speakers to go with this monitor. Some that would fit underneath? I have limited desk space and currently have a couple of desktop speakers laid horizontally. Not ideal bit they fit nicely under the screen with it in its lowest position.

Cheers
I just bought a pair of Ruark Audio MR1 speakers this evening..

But I don't know if they fit under your monitor...
(There about 185mm high standing up or 130mm high if you put them laying on there side)

I purchased 3 of these and 3 GTX980's to power them but SLI doesn't seem to agree with G-Sync...at all. The image becomes a stuttering mess despite the fact games are running at over 120fps...

Disable G-Sync the problem goes away, both in single and surround mode.

I'm planning on dual sli with another evga sc 980 sli ..anyone else having g-sync issue ?

Sli and gsync have both been faultless for me.

@Andrew, sounds like you have some fault finding to do, a card/monitor/cable somewhere isn't doing as it should.

Have you tried different card connection combos? Like two monitors on one card the third on another?

Yeah I popped one of the cards out, problem persisted. The worst games were crysis 3, splinter cell black list, and far cry 3 did you guys try those three games? Swapping to one monitor the problem went away on all but splinter cell.. Seems to be an sli surround g-sync issue... Maybe it's just me.

Any of you with a Swift play League of Legends? Just wanted to know if you have noticed a difference in gameplay when playing at 144hz/Gsync on?

I've had issues with a few titles whereby running on one 780Ti has been better than running on 2 in SLI when Gsync is turned on. Slight judder (not a total stuttering mess by any means) is the issue that's introduced, totally removing the whole point of gsync.

Quick summary of a few games with issues:

1. Dishonered. Unbelievably smooth with one card and Gsync. Using SLI very slight micro judder. Difference is night and day.

2. BF4. This is a weird one - Slight judder when running SLI when slow panning view around using xbox 360 controller. If using mouse the issue not really noticeable, and using one card only it's all fine.

3. Thief 4. Smoother with one card vs SLI with Gsync on

4. Bioshock infinite. Smoother with one card vs SLI with Gsync on

I did loads of testing and there's definitely an issue for some games, gsync and SLI. I should add that for most of my games there are no problems with SLI and gsync.

Also, what do you notice about most of those games I mention above with issues???????......

.......UNREAL 3 engine in case you need a hint. I'm growing to hate this engine. It's getting old and it really needs to be dumped now by (lazy) developers. I bought the vanishing of Ethan Carter the other day, which is great by the way, but the entire experience is ruined by the loading stutter and judder that plagues you as you walk/ run around. This is not an SLI or gsync issue by the way, and I've tried every possible combo and fix out there, including running off an SSD, which never fixes these games with issues.

Texture loading judder is a well known fault of the Unreal 3 engine that seems present in every game using it on release until it's patched out. Deus EX HR had it until fixed by a patch, Bioshock Infinite had it really bad on release until fixed by a patch, Thief 4 had it until fixed by a patch to name a few (this is all regardless of gsync and SLI obvioulsy).

Some other findings of mine on SLI and gsync are in this thread somewhere a few pages+ back if anyone's interested :).....
