The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

I know Nvidia owners have no other option if they want a no tear solution with near zero lag but look at the facts:

No extra ports ie HDMI so no way for people to add TV tuners, BluRay players etc - possibly important in Bedroom setups.

A slight loss in performance (1-2% - tested and proven on games due to the Bi-directional communication used).
No other company can implement its use.
Intel will likely adopt Freesync for their iGPU's and as such more people will buy Freesync monitors.

You have to pay a lot for Nvidia proprietry solution compared to the competition

Nvidia are known for neglecting drivers for their hardware quickly. They are already neglecting the 700 series. The 290x now tops it in most benchmarks. When they stop shifting G-Synce monitors they will most likely implement freesync (They will have to swallow their arrogant pride) so they dont have to support G-Sync anymore.
Like I say, I know Nvidia have no choice and are happy to pay more for proprietry hardware but I see no life in G-Sync beyond 2016/17.
They will become Freesync monitors (if you are lucky) with no other functionality.

Someone seems a little salty with nVidia.

The loss in performance was proven to be nonsense and within margin of error.

They don't want other companies implementing its use, they worked hard to get it the way they want it and already has proven benefits over FreeSync (so far anyway)

Intel haven't said anything about adopting so that's just pure speculation and so far it's limited to very few AMD cards because older models can't support it.

nVidia are known to neglect drivers quickly lmao? AMD can't even support their 295x2 flagship card properly.

Just thought I'd report that my second swift started acting up at the weekend with flickering and horizontal lines appearing on the screen :(

Although looks like this time around the RMA looks much better with the doorstep exchange. The email has asked me to not provide the monitor to the courier in its original box... hoping this is correct?!

How do they deal with the warranty? Do you need an invoice or do they just go off the serial number?

I bought mine used and although the seller said they would help it would be easier if I could replace direct if it ever goes.

Update on my RMA, no stock in the warehouse :(

Jim, any idea when stock is expected please?

Also, these issues that we are experiencing with this screen, do you know if they are being fixed with new revisions and updates or are we just going to get the same hardware and hope for the best, if it dies just RMA it again?
Don't really want to be on some kind of RMA cycle until the warranty runs out.

Ayahuasca, mine was via the serial number but they also asked for purchase date, not the retailer though.

I talked with the GF and thanks to her i was able to upgrade my acer 1080p gsync to a purchase of the ROG SWIFT instead and now im just waiting for delivery within the next 5 hours.. It better be good folks.. :) Next on the shopping list will be the 34" inch va samsung.. She wont be happy :P

I've got a SWIFT sitting on my basket ready to checkout, still waiting on Jim to clarify if the On-site applies to the Republic of Ireland as well. Otherwise I'll either just not order or go elsewhere.

Ask in the CS forum.

That's OcUK, and they've already mucked up on Acer's 144Hz saying on-site when Acer only offers that if you pay Extra.

Hence me asking the local Asus Rep, as I'll be most likely dealing with them, as shipping back to the UK from Ireland to OcUK will easily cost me upwards of €100.

why are you in this thread? have you ever used or seen this? Do you have any interest in stuff thats not yours and "the best ever" Just do everyone a favour and go away, you have clearly NO interest in a reasonable discussion.

I'm gutted to hear about so many rma's with this monitor as it's what I'm looking for,I'm glad I never got a b grade with spending over £400 for a 90 day warranty I would be scared to turn it on,I just hope Asus can fix it for you guys.

The 90 day warranty is with OCUK, you still retain the manufacturers warranty after that for however long it is, Its not "once your 90 days are up your on your own".

Just ordered one myself, really looking forward to this monitor and I'm fairly confident the chances of having an issue are very small given the numbers that have sold.

I have been the owner of the Swift since launch but now I'm faced with a problem. I have a PS4 that I want to use again (been bought Bloodborne and Destiny by my wife). Now I used to have it set up on my old screen but things are different with the Rog. Am I right in thinking I cannot use an adapter? Have done a bit of research but seems no one has been successful. This could be a deal breaker for me and result in selling the panel (might get the Benq freesync, I believe it will work with a 980 just without Freesync)

I use all my consoles with my ROG Swift. How you might ask.
Well I tried a few different adapters but nothing worked, so I bought a Avermedia ExtremeCap U3. It is a usb3.0 video capture card.

The software that comes with it is not great so I use MPC-HC with MADvr plugin. The lag is next to un-noticable and it runs great at 60hz as it captures at that speed, however if you switch on G-Synch the monitor can run at 120hz. It smooths out the frame drops that sometimes appear when running at 120hz.
Using MADVR it upscales very well to 2560 res and there are various other shaders for altering the picture.
I have compared next to my other monitors when going direct and i canoot see or feel any noticeable lag difference.

Obviously the biggest drawback is you need to have your Pc running.

So ive been sitting with my brand new swift for 30 minutes now and banging my head cause i cannot understand why it has such a premium(wait i know, Gsync). The grainy coating doesnt bother me in games but during surfing and desktop time it does but that i can overlook, but gsync what a pile of horsecr*p. Screen flickers like crazy during movement with less than 45 fps during any game i tried and while you dont want to game below 45 fps anyway we already know that some games are designed with 30 fps in mind. The color/light shifting is bad no matter how i tilt it, all i have to do is nod slightly and colors go darker or lighter.

Its not all bad, for a TN it seems to be doing a much better job than my previus TN s27a950d but it just doesnt feel worthy of a pricetag this high. Did asus put together a good monitor? Yes they did but is gsync worth the premium? i personaly dont think it is. Screen is getting returned tomorrow unless it somehow manages to convince me otherwise, doesnt help it arrived with 1 dead pixel 15 cm from the center.

I pulled the trigger on the SWIFT after OcUK got back to me, hoping Asus honour the On-site.

Just in the warehouse queue. Hoping it arrives this week.
