The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

I was playing Metro LL at 2560x1440 with 4xSSAA and the frame counter was showing dips into the 20's and it still felt smooth and flicker free.

The only time I've noticed any flickering is on loading screens and even then it's only slight.

I will say that 45 fps is feels better with g-sync than it would without but at the end of the day its still 45 fps. I really hope i can fall in love fast cause it would suck to return it. The hassle that includes. As i said earlier, for a TN its good, and even the blacks are pretty darn good ...for a TN that is. I personally just do not at the moment feel the "upgrade" has been worth 600+ pounds. Perhaps my expectations were to high to begin with. I will give it one thing, the image is very calm to look at compared to my last TN when reading text which is a big plus.

I have a strange problem with one of my swifts.

One of them will not turn off. If i press the button so the red ring goes out and its switched off then a after a few mins it comes back on.

I have tried swapping the power supplies over and the other one will turn back on so it must be the power supply.

Has anyone else had this problem ??

i have a similar issue. I turn the monitor off(lights off) after shutting pc down and then it could be anywhere from 5-20min the monitor will turn itself on and getting no signal the screen will go off but the light on the monitar stays orange or white

Got mine today. Really impressed with it, just hope I don't get any issues down the road. First impressions though are that its really solid, great build quality. Very nice picture for a TN screen with nice colours. GSYNC seems effective from my 5 minute game test. Happy days!!

In the same situation as JP - had an email today saying that Asus are 'out of stock'. An ETA would be great!

It's such a shame about these issues really. Its a really great monitor otherwise, really hoping they have fixed the issues now...

Well my swift is going back today.. The color shift from bottom to top is just horrible no matter how i tilt/adjust the screen. If i move my head i can see the color changing to darker or lighter shade of itself.. Now i wont fault the swift for this, i should have known that TN would do this, even after all the improvements they have made to the tech, and it didnt bother me in the past but i guess i met a gal along the way called IPS that showed me the error of my ways lol . D*mn her :P.

Now the swift is fast, incredible fast and i am certainly going to miss that and the extremely low blur that i dont even notice it that was an awwsome thing to behold compared to my blur monster(atleast it seems so now after using the swift lol)

The Acer IPS 144hz 1440p gsync isn't far from release, many in the states already have one so maybe that will be a better choice for you, it's more expensive though and in my opinion the stand and thicker bezel look awful along with Acer's dodgy customer service.

Well acers customer support wont be an issue for me cause its the retailer that sold me the product that has to deal with it(poor them) for the first 2 years(in denmark).

I think your right though, the IPS might be a good pick for me. Dont get me wrong the SWIFT is impressive and some of my issues with it seemed to go away after a few hours of warm up. Its the shortcoming of TN thats killing it for me. Would i recommend the swift? yes to anyone is use to TN its by fare one of the very best monitors you can have for gaming.

Gsync im still not sold on though. I tried using the swift in different scenarios. First 120fps+ and it felt the same with and without gsync most likely due to how fast the panel is by itself. i tried 60+ fps and again didnt make any difference for me using gsync or panel locked at 144hz. I then tried 45-60 area and here gsync did help by a good bit, but anything below 45fps i certainly didnt like as it was just to low of an FPS to enjoy any content with using mouse/keyboard.

I am use to fast panels as i also have a 120hz sammy(swift is miles upon miles ahead of it though) but TN is just dead to me :P. Thats the problem with tech, once you have gotten use to a certain level of quality and/or capability you just cannot go back. Never thought i would turn into a color snop :(

You should think about giving her (mrs swift;)) a bit longer. I was incredibly skeptical about getting mine, and TN in general after being an ips user, and full on image snob for years. But the swift has totally converted me. Yes the vertical shift is bad, but when you sit still and play games, which is what it's for, it's not an issue!
The colour reproduction, once calibrated is superb, and The motion clarity, gsync and smoothness is more than enough to compensate for its shortcomings.

Go on, give her a chance...

You are absolutely correct, the vertical shifting is not an issue when playing games, but desktop time it is a big problem for me and i do a lot of desktop work. Knowing myself and how focus on details(even more so on negative things) its just not a keeper for me but i can understand why people love the screen. Its already been returned as i live close by and the money is on its way back. I think I might just wait and save for the 3440x1440p 144hz ips from acer. It seems to have everything i want even if i have to wait another 6 months for it. Until then my blurry mess of a monitor, the aoc q2963pm, will have to do(awwsome monitor though).

on a sidenote: What did impress me though was the performance of my 780 lightning. I seriously thought it would tank beneath 60 in games like BF Hardline but it didnt on max details and with a few tweaks like post processing set to medium while keeping texture on ultra i was rocking 90-130fps on 64 player servers.. I have a new found love for that card :) solid performer

I own the swift but just come back from a friends who has bought the Benq alternative (He is using it on a 970 at the mo as he needed the extra ports it comes with). Lovely screen, very much like the Rog only more flexible connectivity. Tempted to change . . Could do with the extra connectivity!!

Would it be worth it to spent the same kind of money again just for a few HDMI ports? most be another way for you get get the connectivity without purchasing a new monitor..

Wondering the same thing, just easy to have one screen that rules them all ;). I'm thinking I could still get reasonable money for the Rog if I decided to sell. If I was lucky enough to get 400 then the extra 99 is cheaper than getting a cheap 1080p panel for my consoles

I've been banging on about a 3440 x 1440 suprwide, high Hz screen with gsync for ages. It's on my list of special wants, but I thought it might be ages away. Looks like these panels may be here sooner than we think, which is great.
Not sure I could buy an Acer monitor though. They tend to be cheap and nasty build quality and looks. I wait to see the reviews with interest though.

Panel wise, I'm starting to want VA now though. Something like that Samsung 34 superwide curved, but high Hz and Gsync. Come on boffins!

What about a display port switch? I guess in theory it should work? out on the SWIFT, 1 input the PC and the other input could be whatever from HDMI to DP.

From what I have read it is not that easy. I think one guy managed it using a video capture device but as a rule GSYNC does not handle a converted signal. Looking in the ROG forums, people that have tried with their consoles and various adapters have just ended up with a black screen.

Well I just received an email from Asus saying my replacement has been sent via DPD but no tracking was provided and apparently it could be within the next three working days.

I really hope they gave the the mobile number I provided to DPD so I get a notification as to when it will arrive!

Edit: Just received email and text from DPD, my replacement is coming from a company called "Let Me Repair UK", now dreading getting one with dead pixels and other faults :(
