The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

annoying yes, but everything has the potential to develop a fault.

Thing is, this monitor constantly sold out on every site - I don't know the official sales figures, but it's going to be huge - a % always fails and obviously because someone has paid 6/700 quid for it, they feel that shouldn't be the case.

Will always be some unlucky buyers, but places good cover for this and will gladly swap it, so take advantage of that.

I've said it before, I hate asus with a passion, i've been messed around by them no end - but this monitor is simply too good and if it takes 2/3/4 goes to get the right one, do it - once it's sorted it's unlikely this will be replaced anytime soon

I'm looking to buy either this screen or the Acer model, as well as gaming it will be used for some lightroom/photo-shop work. The photo-editing is new to my partner and myself and need to know whether or not the Asus will suffice or if the Acer is the better option.
Anybody help with this?

You make a good point, I'll be phoning OCUK in the morning and will get it swapped for a new one :)

*EDIT*

On the point of swapping, Will OCUK send out a new one and pick up the faulty one at the same time ? As it's the only monitor I have ATM and I can't really afford to be without one as I work from home half the week.

I think the only way would be to order the item again then send the damaged one back for a refund after you receive the new.

That way ocUK is covered if the item isn't faulty.

I've done that before in the past :)

I'm quickly going off Asus monitors due to nearly every monitor I've owned from them developing stuck or dead pixels eventually, It's ridiculous considering the price of these things.

And this RMA knowing my luck is going to take weeks and in the mean time I'm without a monitor, Royally ****** off.

I'm sorry it's developed a dead pixel... and FWIW I am going to contact HQ and see if I can get some more info about it in general.

As for the return, it shouldn't take weeks as the RMA on the Swift is a direct swap - the courier brings you a new monitor and you give them the old one. You need to ring ASUS direct, not OCUK - as per the description on the OCUK product page
Warranty: 3yr (On-Site with Asus - 01442 265 548)

So I have a 6 week old BenQ XL2420G that is a fantastic screen....but im sitting further away then I had planned and regret not buying the Swift now.....

This thread does read like a bit of a horror story though, but as usual only guys with issues will be here......i hope.

Or is it really a complete lottery with a high chance of getting a duffer ?

I was considering upgrading , but not so sure now ;-)

Had mine a few months, and no issues to report. Great screen.

How do you get on pushing the extra pixels on your 980 ?

Ive got used to seeing triple digit frames at 1080 , so would obviously take a hit , but difficult to quantify by how much

You won't hit triple digits with one card, but you won't have to with Gsync at 1440p. I find 60fps is smooth with Gsync. Dragon Age went as low as 45 fps in parts when I had my single card, and I still found it to be fine on the Swift.

It's something you really need to see.

Mine is ok "so far" I've treated mine like a 120Hz panel though - I've got a niggling feeling they've been pushed too far to make 144Hz + GSYNC work and the higher failure rate is due to the ratio of monitors being pushed to the point of having no overhead is higher so those that aren't 110% robust are being pushed too far (though could be completely wrong).

Having an Asus rep active goes a long way for me personally in the confidence side of it I'd be much more likely to buy (again) knowing they are on top of any potential issues so to speak and there is someone to communicate with if they do crop up.

I am in similar position. I am on Benq xl2420t and I really would like to try something new, especially 1440p with gsync. Some of the post here put me off this monitor, but I am still lurking this thread. I think I will buy it, even if unlucky, I hope I can expect good customer service with swapping for another one. Was quietly counting on Acer XB270HU but it turned out to be abomination of a monitor. If one thinks this thread seems to be somehow negative, the Acer one will be in different league. I am quite interested how Ocuk will handle all those issues. Back to Asus, I recon I do not have much choice now but to buy Swift as a stop gap until proper 144hz IPS lands on the market.

I went from a 144hz 1080p BenQ monitor to the Swift on a single 780, I had a Titan X on pre-order but due to the delays on the TX's I was left with the 780 for 3 weeks.

I canceled my TX order... I've had to compromise a little on the settings and while my FPS have gone from 120+ to fluxtuating on average between 40 and 80 I actually found the gaming experence feeling and looking better.

And it does look amazing, it is quite honnestly the biggest jump my gaming experence I've had since I first got sound on my PC 16 years ago!
