The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

Anybody ever get an issue with launching a game (Black Flag and Far Cry 4 for example) and then it minimizing? When I click on the game icon on the task bar it opens then minimizes again. To open the game I have to click on the game icon, then quickly left click the mouse for the game to stay open. Very odd.

That's 100% a problem with the game and not the monitor, happens to many people.

The PG279Q is the one I'm watching out for, but there's no word on a release date. Essentially it's the same panel as the Acer XB270HU, which isn't without its issues, but that's mostly because of woefully poor QC. The Asus certainly looks better cosmetically, and if they can QC it properly it could be an excellent all round choice, offering IPS colour greatness combined with G-Sync high refresh smoothness. No 3D though, if that's something you'd want.

4K @ 60Hz I personally don't quite see the desire for vs 120/144Hz 1440p... sure, at the moment with GPU power where it is, a higher refresh 4K screen would be largely pointless even if they existed (which they don't), but I imagine once Pascal and Display Port 1.3 are out next year, we'll see big strides in this area. At present, 4K is an expensive stop gap. 1440p is going to be the sweetspot for some time yet.

Try quitting the Samsung magician UI (don't need to kill the background Samsung services but make sure everything to do with magician is stopped and its not showing in the system tray).

Now my 4th Swift has developed a fault (and this time within 24 hours of being replaced by direct by Asus) I am going to rid myself of it. I made exceptions for it not having any other inputs, making my consoles redundant but not any more. GSync is great technology but the premium you pay for the feature whilst losing out on basics like Hdmi etc just isn't worth it for me. So what panel next?

Thanks Rroff, will give that a try tonight. Does the Samsung software cause problems usually? I only got my Evo last month.
 
Doesn't cause problems "usually" but its use of DX is a bit funky and its known to sometimes cause issues where it will prevent another application going into fullscreen. Could be something completely different but I've run into the that issue with magician in the past so know its one cause of it.
 
It must be fate! I've had this monitor and the Gigabyte 980 TI G1 in my basket since this morning but wasn't sure on getting them. I've just checked and they are now both on sale.

I just need to decide on a PSU now as I've only got a Corsair 520W.

Mate, you were 100% correct! I disabled magician and tested the games that were not going full screen and they are working again!

I've just set the monitor up an there is one dead black pixel. It's right in the middle of my Chrome title bar.

Is there anything I can do?

There seems to be some sort of colour shift too, from the top of the screen to the bottom. It's dark at the top and much lighter at the bottom. Also I'm noticing a blue light coming from the bottom right corner but only in dark scenes.

Other than that this monitor is absolutely amazing! G-Sync is so good!
