The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

March 2015. I only noticed it when I put on a film and the bottom black letterbox was dark grey rather than black.

I dont really watch films on my PC so I think I can tolerate that as everything else is perfect, if I had your issues I think it would be going back personally.

Can anybody tell me what cable I need to run a old 470 on the swift, I bought a display port to dvi but it doesn't work.

You need a displayport to displayport cable to get 120+Hz. If your 470 doesn't have either DP or mini-DP out you'd need an active adapter if they even exist (I can't remember).

Mine does exactly the same (just got it today).

View angles on mine are a bit like that though its very slight - need eye height about level with the top of monitor for it to be close to uniform from top to bottom on mine - from normal viewing position the top is very slightly darker. Its not so bad on mine that it bothers me but if I was particular about gamma shift and/or it was moderately worse it would be a bit annoying.

I'm very much in love with this monitor. I thought 27" might be a bit to big at first but it really isn't. BF4, WoW and D3 seem like they were made for it.

If it wasn't for the dead pixel and blue light in the bottom corner I wouldn't replace it.

Took delivery of Swift no.4 yesterday, replacement swap straight from Asus and now at least every other boot this happens to display. No other hardware or software changes and it also happens in Bios:

Anyone else had this?

Known issue. I read that is caused by having the GSync enabled all the time for desktop, recommended you enable ULMB with GSync turned off to save the panel and those dreaded lines but already looks too late if the problem is consistent. Kicks in after 2-3 months too and that is after the 28 days from ocuk for the handy dead pixel service they provide.

Got to love Asus customer support. The sent me a replacement panel last week, door swap. Great, unfortunately the panel developed a fault almost immediately. I took screenshots and made a video, sent it to them along with all the monitor details. Their reply to me was:

The form with the serial number: E9LMQS096715 has been rejected as the given
information advises that the unit is provided with local warranty only.

According to the information, it shows that the unit was purchased outside of
the UK or Ireland.
If this is indeed the case, ASUS cannot accept the return as the provided
warranty is honoured in the country of purchase only.
If the unit is purchased in the UK or Ireland, please forward a copy of the
proof of purchase via email to the address: [email protected] and you
will be advised further on the matter.

I then contacted them explaining this panel came DIRECT from them as a replacement. They simply replied with the same message. I then sent them proof of purchase from OCUK. They refused it as the serial number for the panel I bought does not correspond with this. So, I have a faulty replacement that came DIRECT from Asus and they will not RMA it as the serial is registered out of the UK.

Bravo . . .

Forgot to add, I even gave them the case number for the previous swap so they have all the details of drop off and pick up, but, they have no record of the serial number they delivered.

I'd be asking for the managers details as you wish to make a complaint. Awful support from them.

The Asus rep on this forum use to be quite active, maybe he can help

I am going to give them a call in the morning and see if we can get this sorted voice to voice. It's just so frustrating, especially as they are now saying it was not purchased in the UK!! Of course it wasn't, it was (apparently) a NEW panel direct from them.

That's actually ridiculous. Surely they have a record of doing the swap?? Tracking information or something, and/or your original complaint about the fault which triggered the replacement. Crazy.

What's the consensus with this monitor then?
Should I get one?
Been looking at the Acer thread far too much so I've forgotten about the issues with the ROG Swift :p

A lot of us looked at that Acer ;) Some took a risk for IPS and some took a risk and stuck with TN knowing those issues too with the screen that I needn't repeat.

Got mine yesterday while it was on offer otherwise above my budget - this is why I was holding my breathe for a while as it sit in my basket before entering my card details.

Would recommend you order it because it's worth it purely for gaming over the competition at this resolution but is also demanding. Still trying it out and need more time with it, GSync is really smoothing the frames! Jump from 1080 to 1440 isn't as big as I thought but I had 24" 1080 for such a long time that I consider that too small to be immersed any more.

If you have any problems either OCUK or Asus should sort it. I know what TN panels are all about having owned a few and not had issues. This quality should continue for all Swift owners in paying this much and I expect quality to be about the same, not less. Saying that I'd grab a icm profile for your Swift and play with Nvidia image quality settings.

Sacrifice over IPS is worth it for gaming and super smooth motion and control but won't be watching movies on it, will switch over to my plasma every time for unparalleled black levels and colours!

The Swift has a lot of issues, I personally went through 4 of them all with varying degrees of dead pixels, Stuck pixels, Flickering etc...before just getting a refund.

I've heard good things about the IPS Acer though.

I'm loving my Swift but it has gone back to OCUK for a swap due to a dead pixel and back light bleed. It is a lovely screen though, I just hope I get one without issues this time.

I tried to play BF4 on my old Dell 2407 and it feels unplayable after using the Swift. Like I'm using a slow controller.

I've got a little circular scuff in the bottom middle of the screen, it's only visible when the background is black, but it does annoy me.

I've tried vaseline and lip salve, but that doesn't work like it does with scratches. Anyone know of a way to fix it?

I have a lot of sympathy for those with problems with their monitors but just to balance things out a bit I've had a Swift since launch and have had zero problems with it.

It was my first TN screen and I was wary of the move from IPS but I can honestly say I have no regrets whatsoever.

My suggestion would be to contact ASUS ROG UK on Twitter and/or Facebook and ask for it to be escalated to the monitors lead and the returns manager.

They should be able to pass it through to them and get it looked into.
