The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

So, I have just received replacement no 5 after a battle with ASUS over serial numbers. Guess what, it's faulty. Not only that, it was filthy. There was no cover on the IO port on the back. I rang customer support and they said it sounded like I had been sent a panel that was obviously "awaiting" repair!!

I'm done with them. I'm looking now for a new panel. I'm happy to say goodbye to GSYNC. I have a budget of maximum £500 and I'm going to try and order for delivery tomorrow. Never experienced anything like it

And this is why asus are on my list of monitor manufacturers to avoid :p

Benq is def. a good shout.

And no, either go all out and get the fury x or just get a cheap second hand 290x.

Nice monitor although it is very over priced imo, you can get the IPS versions, one of which has freesync and is 75HZ for less than £300 and the AOC 34" 3440x1440 for £100 more than the Samsung 29"

I fully expect the price to drop in the next few months, because you're very right. Samsung often place quite a price premium on unique products like this, but the price often falls quite dramatically a few months after launch. :)

Hopefully.... although the 34" is still very expensive and it has been out for quite a while now :/

It has dropped in price by over £100, although it must just be that enough people are willing to pay the current asking price anyway. I'd expect an £80-£100 drop on the 29" model in a few months, but it's tricky to predict.

It was £900 at once?!

iirc the pre-order price was £700 (at least @ocuk anyway), it needs to drop to at least that again.

Saying that, a lot of the monitors these days are over priced imo.

Not basing this on OcUK's pricing, but some other major retailers started it off at a bit over £850. It's now comfortably under that, although still above the £700 special for now.

I have a really odd situation with my Swift.

I was happily gaming away: I had EVGA precision running on an old 120 hertz second monitor, my Swift as primary. I was playing Witcher 3, quit the game, moved my mouse over to the second monitor and pressed the 'default' button in Precision (as I wanted to compare frame rates with a stock and a mild OC).

Instantly, the Swift gives me an 'out of range' error. Now, no matter what i try and I cannot have both monitors running at anything but the same frame rate. If the Swift is 140 hertz and the secondary is plugged in, i get 'out of range' on the Swift . If i unplug the old monitor I can do whatever i like with the Swift. I swear before pressing that 'default' button i had the second at 120 and the Swift at 140 with zero problems. Am i going mad?

<snip>

Mine has started to make lines like that down the left of the screen. I originally turned it off and disconnected all cables/reconnected them and it seems "ok" at the moment. Could this be a sign of it failing?

EDIT: Doesn't seem to be noticeable until I now go in game. It is still there though :(

I went through 4 Swifts.

1st one developed dead and stuck pixels 3 days after purchase.

2nd Swift Flickered upon arrival

3rd Swift had loads of stuck pixels, Was literally covered in filth and absolutely stunk of cigarette smoke.

4th Swift had really bad flickering and a handful of dead and stuck pixels.

I ended up getting a full refund.

Asus are using sub par panels with these monitors, They should not develop so many faults mere days after purchase.

Heh got a bit too use to gaming at 144Hz with framerate capped to 125fps using gsync - seems to side step the 144Hz issues and work a little bit better than 120fps (still use 120Hz on desktop) - would be a bit harder to go back to no having gsync now :(

The problem is Asus's RMA procedure - once you get a problem panel and into that circle you just end up in a pool of people with dead panels being passed around like pass the parcel - someone else probably has your original one. Really not acceptable IMO and why I don't usually buy Asus anymore. (Hence me doing this and cutting my losses and running http://www.aten-hosted.com/images/DSC00524S.jpg after getting 3 dodgy RMA replacements in a row).

Update on my situation with Asus. After contacting them on Friday by phone and by email I now have to go back through the whole RMA process. I emailed them explaining how cheesed off I was with the whole situation, that to receive panel no.5, filthy, battered box and then to plug it in and it had a faulty panel was just terrible service. As a premium panel that i paid £699 for and I am now having to constantly RMA it, making sure I'm at home for when the replacement comes, this is just a total inconvenience. I'm now stuck borrowing a 14" Dell from work as I do not have the funds to just buy another panel although I want to. Never will I buy an Asus product again. To make things worse, I have a Maximus Impact VII and the optical out has died so I need to RMA that. Mind you, after this fiasco I'm more likely to just throw it in the bin and get a different mobo. Anyway, the following is Asus reply to my email of complaint.

Dear Chris Whitney,

Thank you for contacting ASUS and raising your complaint with our support team.
We are terribly sorry to be advised that you are experiencing issues with your ASUS product.

When the product is out of the DOA period we sent a refurbished LCD, if you have problems with this product please go to the website and ask for a repair number that we can change the monitor for you.
We cannot send you a new LCD monitor due to that the product is out of the DOA period.

I am really sorry for the inconveniences caused to you.

Kind regards
Mieke v T.
