The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

Still having issues with long cables. Tried quite a few now and always seem to get flickers or black screens randomly for a couple of seconds.

Can anyone suggest a cable 4 metres or over that works with this monitor @ 144Hz issue free?

I'm not sure any long cable will work with the swift to be honest. 1440p @ 144hz is pushing really close to the bandwith limit of displayport 1.2 so any signal degradation due to cable length will cause problems.

Loving the 4K (Philips 40")

Prefer the better colours and image on the VA panel.

The only game that I can really spot the diff going from 120/144 to 60hz is BF4, notice a little bit of lag. Didn't use Gsync a lot as I preferred ULMB.

Still playing with the settings at the mo, but no regrets about the switch.

Hope this helps:)

Thanks for the info.

I'm currently considering the AMH A399U Korean monitor, seems good value vs the Philips even if you lose a years worth of warranty and any hope of swapping it out for dead pixels.

How do you find the image quality and sharpness vs the Swift? My main concern is that a 27" monitor @ 1440p is going to have as near as makes no difference the same pixel density as a 40" monitor @ 4K. So I'm wondering if it is a bit of a pointless "upgrade". Sure you get a bigger screen, but if you don't see any differences in quality it does seem a bit pointless.

Yeah I'm aware it is very close the bandwidth limits, but I'm sure I read that there are some people in this thread who have the screen working fine with a longer cable @ 144Hz. Unless of course I imagined it! lol

I placed it Asus direct, thank you!

You are welcome. :)

Another one bites the dust...I'm Defo not buying this garbage now...asus should withdraw this monitor ASAP.

You never were, aren't you shopping for a 4K monitor?

You rarely hear about people who have no issues with the monitor, just the ones that do. Which means visiting a thread like this one will create a bias view of return rates.

at 600 plus you should not have a dodgy power supply...

Not sure the price has anything to do with it. Components fail in everything from cheap hardware to high end expensive hardware.

Not necessarily :p

Plenty of other monitor threads were there are very few negative posts i.e. the samsung 34", philips 4k 40" and benq 27xl30z threads.

I don't think as many people are affected by problems but going by this and countless other threads on various forums, there are too many people reporting the same issues for it just to be a "few" isolated issues.

I'm not saying there are not some issues, I've not had any myself but rubbish like "asus should withdraw this monitor ASAP." is a completely ridiculous statement to make. You also have to factor in the popularity of this screen, the length of time it has been out and the type of people it is aimed at before you can really compare threads. The interest in this screen has of course been huge, more so than any of the other panels mentioned.

the rog is the perfect gaming monitor the problem is its not perfect i have had this monitor 8 months it ran flawless and fulfilled all my needs until last week it died, i only hope that its a one off and doesn't start happening to everyone in time to come, the reason i say this is in those 8 months i have used it a hell of a lot by this i mean gaming for 4 or more hrs a night all weekend also the usual browsing, movies, etc probably more than the average user. so someone else using theirs less frequent may be ok for a longer life i hope i am an isolated case but it seems strange that mine packs up for no reason whatsoever. i have made no pc changes no usage changes almost to me it seems ive worn it out.

btw can i rma it still if don't have the original box.

thanks.

No idea if they have changed the process but last time I did a swap the courier was quite understanding as I didn't have all the packaging. So you should be able to pull the new one and the accessories out of the box and just use the new box to package the old one in.

You only need to return the monitor and the stand, they don't care about the cables or power supply (which is good as it will leave you with a spare).

You might get lucky and have the replacement delivered first and then the old one collected by a different courier at a later date, but as always prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Make sure you have a box opener and tape to reseal to make it as quick as possible, otherwise the courier might not be willing to wait. The stand is a bit of a pain as without the weight on it it tends to extend, but once it is in, it is in as they say! ;)

You will not need the box. The courier will deliver you the replacement panel and all you do is take the panel out the box, and put your old panel back in and they take it away. dont need the cables, power supply, stand.

It states that in the email but my last driver just wouldn't have it. I ended up having to box mine (without accessories) as I couldn't get him to understand what it clearly said in the email. That's how I ended up with a battered box!! (OOeeerrrrr)

"Components fail in everything from cheap hardware to high end expensive hardware."

I agree with this to a point but a lot of today's hardware is crap when it comes to build quality. I still have a Mitsubushi 19" CRT that looks as good as it did when I bought it (from OCUk many many years ago) and my brother still games on the Sony GDM FW900 which is from 1999 and that has never failed, still has the most amazing picture and is silky smooth. I have just swapped my faulty "Asus" Maximus Impact VII for the Supermicro C7Z97-OCE and it's by far the best motherboard I have ever owned. No gimmicks, just excellent build quality and stability.

I've had it out with them myself, they should have changed the drivers note or e-mail by now tbh.

Yeah I agree with you there, but that applies to everything now. From white goods to computer parts. Fits with the whole throw away culture we have, rather than build things to last and repair them when they become faulty we throw them out.
