The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

My monitor has just started doing the dreaded not staying powered up. Unplug for 20 seconds and plug back in works fine.

Can we RMA just the PSU as it seems ASUS are problematic with swapping out just the PSU.

Monitor is perfect in other respects, just not staying powered after shut down is annoying.

For a £550 monitor these problems shouldn't exist with so many people, Asus really need to improve in the QC department.

Can you tell us the model number of the Asus laptop power adapter you bought please ?

This is the one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310802807946?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Just check the specs again. Its pretty much identical to Asus's official PSU.

On a side note, it doesn't get as hot as the official power brick either.

My monitor has also started doing this :(

I just looked on Ocuk for the date when I ordered it

So i just got one of these, first 1440p Monitor i've had, it's a beauty, looks and feels great.

All but one thing.

This monitor has the harshest anti glare coating i have ever seen in my life, like someone smeared greasy KFC chicken fingers all over it, it's absoloutely horrid seeing it on bright screens.

I'm already tempted to mod it and open it up remove it because it's that horrid.

I would advise caution against removing the coating as you can damage the screen when dismantling. At first it looks great but after some time you'll realise without precautions you'll need to source a new screen.

Since you don't have any protective film on, you better make 100% sure nothing ever gets on that screen otherwise you'll have a permanent mark. You're meant to use another glass panel or film to prevent issues later down the line. Think of it like wearing goggles in a sandstorm.

SamG, they all have a coating. From TFTCentral - link
The screen coating on the PG278Q is a medium anti-glare (AG) offering. It isn't a semi-glossy coating, and isn't as light as some modern IPS type panels either. It's in keeping with other TN Film panels we've tested really. Thankfully it isn't a heavily grainy coating like some old IPS panels feature, although there is some graininess noticeable sometimes. It retains its anti-glare properties to avoid too many unwanted reflections of a full glossy coating, but does not produce an too grainy or dirty an image that some thicker AG coatings can. There were no cross-hatching patterns visible on the coating

Ah okay. Could that explain why text on websites and documents sometimes looks blurry? That is the only time I have the brightness up.

I would remove that link to the auction site if I were you even though its for a PSU. You might get wrapped knuckles.

Don't forget if you do kiss your warranty goodbye.

Is that even possible? I thought it was bonded on, almost like a screen protector or something?

Mate, every warrant i've had with every tech company has been complete ********, from MSI to Asus, Acer to Corsair. They're all lying ****bags and to me warranty means bugger all nowadays.

I saw a video of a bloke modding a Dell monitor to remove it, however i dont know if it is the same process.
Dont know if i will do it or not, i can get a piece of glass cut to size no problem but it's horrible to look at right now and for that price point is beyond a joke.

Got my monitor Saturday and just noticed a dead pixel bang in the centre of the screen , Do I need to contact overclockers or Asus for the exchange service and do i hope the replacement is going to be ok or do I get a refund and scratch my head on what to get next ?

OCUK have a great dead pixel policy for the Swift, Even if it has 1 you can contact them and replace it with a brand new one :)

i.e at the bottom of the Swift product page -

- OcUK Exclusive Service: Warranty regarding dead pixels falls under ISO rules and as such dead pixels if very few are not an actual fault. But at OcUK we value our customers especially when spending such a large amount of money on what is a flagship gaming monitor. As such even if you only have 1 dead/stuck pixel and it has not gone after 3 days, we will class the monitor as faulty and exchange it for you at no cost to you. This service is exclusive at OcUK for Asus ROG Swift ONLY or other qualifying monitors! (Valid for 28 days from purchase)!

One thing that does annoy me about this monitor is the quality control of the panels, Luckily this one is ok *for the minute* but I had to go through 6 Swifts prior to this one to try and get 1 that didn't have stuck and dead pixels and yet when I've pointed this out to Asus as I'm far from the only 1 they come back with "Oh that's just an isolated case"....

6 wow I did have a Acer Predator XB270HU before this monitor but I had to rma that one due to dead pixels.
Thought I would give the Asus a try but after reading this thread it puts doubt in your mind about getting a good one but what else is there monitor wise to have .
