The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

6 wow I did have a Acer Predator XB270HU before this monitor but I had to rma that one due to dead pixels.
Thought I would give the Asus a try but after reading this thread it puts doubt in your mind about getting a good one but what else is there monitor wise to have .

It shouldn't put you off getting one. lot of happy people out there who have a swift.

Got mine last Aug, Not had one problem with it. it's a beauty.

May 2 more from this weeks deals.

I had an Acer before this, worst monitor i've ever had, this one trumps it be absoloutely miles and came just fine my only issue with this is t the horribly harsh anti glare. Makes it look like i've rubbed kfc chicken grease all over it.

Time to report yet another PSU starting to fail! Order date 3 Oct 14. Screen started turning on when PC was off about 2/3 months ago. I started turning of the power on the extension lead but this grates me as I have a cordless mouse which charges over night on a cradle. Over the last few days the monitor will not turn on with a PC boot until I remove the plug from the socket! Going to try the ASUS PSU RMA as recommended above. Apart from the PSU monitor has been great.

Received my RoG Swift today from OCUK, amazing service by the way (a lot better than the watercooling bundle I ordered).
The monitor is great, loving the extra screen space upgrading from a 1080p monitor.
Haven't got any dead pixels so far which I'm pleased about and everything seems to look ok apart from one thing;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEtzLjWhqpY

If you look on the part I focus on you can see horizontal RGB lines pulsing upwards which give the image a very grainy appearance. It's most noticable on the first second of the clip I posted but I'm sure it's giving images such as smnoke and steam a grainy appearance in BF4.
Is this me being fussy or is this a genuine problem with my monitor? It's not as noticeable on the video as it is in person.

Edit; video not working yet

Hard to see from the video but if its the effect I think it is its a common problem with 144Hz panels of all types - if you run it at 120Hz or 144Hz with G-SYNC enabled and a frame rate cap at like 135fps it should go away. If it doesn't its a fault with the monitor.

Does anyone know how to fix the awful Gamma permanently, every fix i do (Calibrating monitor, control panel) it just resets when i play games and when i finish gaming i have to go back into nvidia control panel, swap to nvidia then back to my display to get it right again.

The gamma is awful on these monitors but all the fixes dont work properly.

Return rates were supposed to have dropped significantly since a manufacturing change in 2014, and as far as I'm aware the vast, vast majority have been OK.

It is an exceptionally popular product, and with extremely discerning customers, which probably makes things look worse than they are.

In short, your chances of getting a good one are very high, but you can't guarantee it. And unfortunately some people don't seem to have had the best experience with the RMA system, though at least it's door swap.

Had an Acer XB270HU before this, returned for obvious reasons. Got the swift last week and so far can't fault it.

Panel isn't quite as good as the Acer's it but will definitely do until the ultrawide's aren't so ridiculously expensive.

Well I've had mine since October 7th and after a few days 2 dead pixels turned up, After a few more days another dead pixel turned up and just now a stuck pixel turned up.

This will be the 7th Swift I have had with defects like this.

It's pathetic.

Was thinking of ordering one of these this weekend. But after seeing the various issues in not so sure now.

One of the big problems is the RMA side which IMO falls far short of what acceptable for a premium product. If you end up with a bad one you are pretty much cursed.

The Asus RMA for me was terrible, The first 4 replacement monitors I got were someone else' faulty RMA, The 5th was in new packaging but was faulty as well, The 6th I bought from a different store only lasted 2 days before it developed stuck pixels and now this one I've had for 9 days has developed 3 dead pixels and 1 stuck pixel.

If I RMA it I'll probably get one that is someone else' RMA again or a panel that will develop faults only a week or so after receiving it, Really regretting getting this monitor again :(

You got another one? I thought you'd sworn off it?

I've noticed my ROG Swift has started turning on by itself! I turn it off and when I come back home it's gone to standby. Anyone else come across this issue?

Requested a replacement via the Rainforest shop, but the annoying thing is the panel itself is great. I suspect this is just a power supply issue? I don't think I'll have any luck trying to get a new psu sent out from Asus.

Mate, every warrant i've had with every tech company has been complete ********, from MSI to Asus, Acer to Corsair. They're all lying ****bags and to me warranty means bugger all nowadays.

I saw a video of a bloke modding a Dell monitor to remove it, however i dont know if it is the same process.
Dont know if i will do it or not, i can get a piece of glass cut to size no problem but it's horrible to look at right now and for that price point is beyond a joke.

I agree with the warranty part everywhere is horrid at trying to get a issue sorted at least from my experience. If he doesn't say he has been using a third party PSU Asus will never know anyway just if he returns it send in the original PSU. I've been using a third party PSU with my monitor since my other blown up and it runs much cooler and better now.

If the panel is excellent and you like your monitor I would go 3rd party like the others, you don't want to end up regretting getting a bad batch :(

Cheers, I think I'm going to go that route now thinking about it. Just been having a look at a suitable psu replacement. Which third-party ones have people bought? Any recommendations?

EDIT: Sorry, just seen these one quoted: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310802807946?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

That'll teach me for not bothering to have a look through this thread first..

:)
