The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

I scrapped my 29" 21:9 monitor plans when this was announced last year and upgraded my gpu with that money and started saving up again for the Asus Swift monitor, But they've taken so long and it's still not here and now there's a 34" 21:9 in the mix that I'm feeling I'm inclined to scrap my plans yet again and go for the 34"er. Shame.

One week to go until computex, I'm ready for dissapointment tbh. Half expecting Asus to turn around and say q1 2015 or something.

Might be an idea to leave off until the Acer 4k2k gsync panel arrives, some early pricing estimates are pitching it around the £800 mark.

Asus will say "we held off to bring you the Swift using a IPS panel". :D

The fact its not that short of a year since 1st seen mentioned and Korean IPS models can OC to 120+HZ then..... (can hope).

The problem with that is even at 120hz, IPS panels still have noticeable motion blur because they don't have the response times of TNs. Yes I have an OC'd IPS panel before you ask, its better then a 60hz IPS but nowhere near a 120hz TN. I will be upgrading to the swift as soon as possible.

Going from the xl2720t to an import ips 1440p for 200 quid was the best move I made. Don't get me wrong, TNs are coming along well and will always provide a smoother motion but until they need to improve quite a bit still.

I'm glad this is TN tbh, can't really label an IPS panel "gaming". An OC'd IPS panel still has dirt motion blur and can't really be compared other than the colours and viewing angles (which aren't even that bad these days on TN).

I'm hoping we see other manufacturers do something similar, don't fancy dealing with the ASUS QC lottery again.

AU Optronics apparently make the panel. Their parent company is BenQ so it's quite possible that BenQ will have something to compete with this. Then again it seems that ASUS may have taken what was designed to be a 60Hz panel and overclocked the heck out of it. One of the reasons for the delay of this monitor is actually fitting suitable cooling to the monitor and getting the yield for such a device.

If coolings the problem, I'll take my monitor now and watercool it :D

Nah they usually have a few days of build up events leading to the main gig before hand, nothing newsworthy usually comes from these :)

3rd to the 7th was my understanding.
