Another Samsung S23A700D owner that's interested. Even though this monitor would only be just over 2 years old this new Asus ticks a lot of the right boxes.

The only downsides are lack of 3D and the slightly naff design of the base. 3D I rarely use but it's nice to have the option - particularly if spending this kind of money.

Thank you good sir :) I'll be joining Gregster here as an early adopter. I've been waiting forever for 120Hz 1440P and the fact this has GSync just makes it perfect. My Sammy 700D has served me well and is an awesome monitor, but this I cannot resist :D

Regardless of G-Sync, I have been wanting a 120Hz 1440P monitor for what seems, ever. This cant cône quick enough and G-Sync is à bonus.

3D is confirmed on this screen but not sure if 1440P 3D is an option. A bonus if it is.

Been doing as much reading up on this as possible, one thing I've noticed on the spec sheet...

Refresh rate: over 120hz

Could we possibly have just early release specs on a potential 144hz monitor?

I went from CRT straight to a Sammy 120Hz and while I was happy to retain the high refresh rate, the grey blacks, drab colours and banding really grate on me. If this panel improves on any of those deficiencies, I'll be all over it.

The colours are usually very vibrant on 27" 120/144hz Asus tn panels.

Nice spot by the way, pgi947! 144hz would make it even better! :D

Going to keep an eye on this monitor as it progresses and maybe dream of one day owning one!

Set it to 1080p and put it in full screen, pause at the 20 second mark, the spec on refresh shows the 'over' 120hz part :)

The press release always stated 'Over 120Hz' as well. Not sure if that's because it hasn't been confirmed exactly how high it will go, whether there are some drawbacks to pushing it higher or what. Who knows how high this will go - whack in G-SYNC and this is a very interesting bit of kit. :)

yeah....very tempted by this and at the same time torn between this and the new 21:9 monitors that are coming out.

will gonna have to wait for proper reviews of this how it is in terms of colors.

The panel is capable of 144Hz according to other forums. But as I understand it Asus are still working on it they know it can do 120, but they are working with nvidia to get everything running fine with 144@1440p

It's easier to market 120hz than a higher figure. It's a figure that people know and understand to some extent. That would be my guess.

Nice. 2560x1440 at 144 Hz would pretty much be maxing out DP 1.2. Will require a super short/good quality cable, as DP has a really weak signal. I have to use a fiber optic DP cable for my 4K 60 Hz at 35 feet, which is just slightly under the bandwidth requirement for 1440p at 144 Hz.

Yes that's true (like calling a PLS panel 'IPS' because it is better known). It seems ASUS also haven't confirmed the 144Hz capability yet (working with Nvidia on that as Cr4zy suggested).

Actually, doing the math, 2560x1440 at 144 Hz won't be possible with DP 1.2 unless Asus messes with the bit-rate.

Standard signal above with 24-bit rate is 18.14 Gbit/s (CVT-RB + TDMS 8b10b). DP uses 8b10b encoding, so the maximum effective bit rate is 17.28 Gbit/s.

If all specs are adhered to, the max refresh for 2560x1440 via DP 1.2 is 137.5 Hz.

This looks like the monitor I have been waiting for, unless there is some major issue with it I will definitely be buying one.

Having owned a 30" DELL and 27" Iiyama 120hz I can not wait for this monitor. It just looks amazing!!! Regarding the comments about IPS, this is a gaming specific monitor so I'm not surprised that they have gone for TN. Overload have been over clocking high res IPS monitors to 100hz for a while now....

Anyways, I've not seen a product which had this type of step change since the SSD. I'm definitely preordering this.

Perhaps they'll settle at ~130hz, or even just stay at 120hz.

As for the cable required, asus have said they'll be providing an adequate dp cable with the monitor :)

what price we reckoning for this asus?

and is it gonna have better colours than my XL2420T

a straight dollars to pounds conversion (plus VAT) puts it at about £580
there are some very good quality 2560x1440 monitors in the £450-550 bracket so to price this any higher than about £600 would be a bit silly of them... having said that if they are up to about £650 I will probably still get one (unless we have a firm date on a 39inch 4k gsync monitor by then)

Asus are saying that the panel they have chosen/developed is near IPS quality colours, or even better than some of the lower end IPS, so yes it should have better colours than the one you have, but I would wait on a review to compare in truth
