The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

I don't really have any issues as it stands with my 3 27" 2560x1440 monitors in terms of games being playable or smooth.

Typically I only play older games across 3 screens anyway, and even then not always. I have 3 screens for work/productivity. It's just a nice bonus that I can also span games across them too.

gsync will be great for those heavily demanding singleplayer titles like Metro or Crysis 3, if you mainly play online fps though I don't think it's going to help much if you can't hold decent fps still.

It will always come down to the user though, same way people have no issues playing on an IPS monitor yet others find it unplayable for fast paced fps.

this isn't true, the 28" 4K TN's are 10-bit (8-bit+dithering I think more accurately)

I have both a 1440 IPS and a 28"4K and the 4K blows the socks off my IPS as a complete package, I don't see that I'm losing anything in colour accuracy, but the 4K is so much better at handling motion

I stand corrected. That makes the 4Ks far more tempting actually. I was under the impression that all TNs available at the moment were 6 bit including the 4K ones

Just bought this monitor, no competitor talk! Glad I'm going for this monitor instead of a 4k one. 4k just isn't worth it atm. You need 3 titans to even have ok framerate. Not many gpus today can even work well with 4k.

1440p on the other hand no problem :)

Very excited woo hoo :)

I'm on the fence on this. I would rather order from OCUK for such an item because I will pay for better aftersales (and I in particular don't like one competitor for that called **** [you guess]). Can I afford it? Sure, not really a problem for me - i'm completely debt free as of this week (which is amazing) :) - Just umming and ahhing over what is a pretty hefty mark up. Understand the reasons etc and it's good of Gibbo to be up front about it - at 700 I would order today (strange how twenty quid makes a difference eh?). I'm also a little worried that it's as yet not widely reviewed/tested as to whether the product itself is worth having. Argh.

Might still do it though, if only to annoy the wife.

I almost Pre-ordered last night.

I can afford it but I am still on the fence whether it represents a worthwhile upgrade over my BenQ 2420. If there was some actual bloody reviews I would be all over this if it made good reading.

I think I'll wait for these to get into the hands of real people before I invest.

I'd be getting a much bigger res, faster screen, Gsync - the worry is i'm moving from an IPS panel which I really like. I wary of backlight bleed, poorer colours or defective pixels etc.
Especially on a screen north of 700 quid.

That's what return/DSR is for to be honest. There is very little risk in this country (I'm from New Zealand where returns are not always straightforward). As long as you're happy to have £700 tied up for a while then I don't see what the fuss is about.

If it doesn't live up to the fuss then return. If it's awesome as per Gibbo's comments then win :D

True enough.

I've been through absolute hell on returns before and stopped using that company period (and they also lost a lot of orders I used to make via work too).

Pondering tonight. Wife away till Friday..
