The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

ok guys, lets stop all the price moaning now and talking about competitor pricing or whether you can or cannot buy it cheaper anywhere else. Let's stick to the forum rules to avoid this thread having to go please :)

No-one's mentioned competitors or their pricing.

Expecting people to not discuss pricing when this is the most overpriced (initially in UK) product that's been available for ages is a bit much, if we're to except the farcical pricing of the Titan Z.

A couple of retailers in the US are retaining $800 preorders ... so either ASUS are ripping off Brits / Europeans, or retailers here are - or both, which is probably most likely.

yes they have, or as good as. people saying you can get it cheaper elsewhere, even just at the top of this page.

no qualms about people moaning about the retail price of it at all, just need to cut out talking about being able to get it cheaper elsewhere, or anything of that nature.

Damn Dishwasher's died, that's me out, just about had enough put aside. I'll have to stick with the Eizo for now. Before anyone mentions that I could wash up by hand, no, it's beneath me.

I've been looking for a 1ms 144hz 2560x1440 27" monitor. I think it's everyones dream to own one, but damn...if it's not the price that hurts most of us. I just spent most all my money on my new build. I do have a little spare cash to buy this monitor. I just can't decided if it's worth it. I also wanted to get a PS4 for my son.....???

What a dilemma I'm in :( Do I or not????

When it's much cheaper to import it from the other side of the Atlantic, something's clearly rotten in Denmark ..

If ASUS / UK / Euro retailers stick to this kind of pricing scheme, depending on how the pricing is in Asia, I expect you'll see the market saturated with grey imports (since the grey importers based in Asia seem to be able to successfully circumvent some or all of import duties).

I don't see who this favours. Certainly not consumers, certainly not ASUS, certainly not NVIDIA, and aside from the initial shipment, certainly not UK / Euro retailers. Though I guess US consumers benefit greatly from ASUS sticking to their $800 price tag that they reiterated several times.

P.S. Talking about it being cheaper on another continent isn't against forum rules.

i dont work for the shop or have anything to do with their pricing, products or anything else. i'm just here to ensure the rules are folowed. and yes, talking about it being cheaper anywhere could still be consideried as falling under the competitor rules. It depends on what is said but i'd rather people didn't push it to find out! :)

It doesn't specifically say the competitor has to be UK based at all. Anyway, what brought this up was a few posts where people were talking about pricing at other UK competitors and how that pricing differs to the OcUK pricing.

No promotion of OcUK's competitors
We, Overclockers UK (OcUK) are happy to provide the resources of these forums to responsible individuals without charge. They cost a substantial amount of money to maintain and use considerable amounts of bandwidth which is paid for exclusively by us. As you know OcUK are in the computer hardware business and therefore the promotion of OcUK's competitors is forbidden. Examples of promotion are :-

Posting links to competitors websites
Posting links to reviews that promote competitors
Quoting the names or contact details of competitors
Offering to provide the names or contact details of competitors
Hinting about product availability at competitors and their pricing
Using the forums to notify a member of intent or actual supply of names or contact details of competitors
Listing competitors names, URL's or e-mail addresses in signatures
Listing competitors names, URL's or e-mail addresses in profile
Posting links to or the mentioning of auction sites
Disguising attempts to do any of the above

Would be nice if Gibbo or another member of staff could tell us where the OCUK premium comes from though.

I think it's just that. A premium. At least they are pretty much open about it.

Aside from the extra premium on this product I do quite agree about and hate the markup the European market get from manufacturers. Is it extra costs associated to exporting to the EU or something?
Pound getting nice and strong against the $ so should if anything be getting cheaper!

Well if that's the case that it's just a premium for no reason at all it doesn't put much faith in me buying from them again.

Don't know about anyone else but I don't like being charged extra for nothing.

Think they have a big batch so you're paying for the guarantee of getting one, other places probably only have a handful so you could be waiting a long time after release for the next batch to come in. At which point ocuk price will be back to normal.

I think that OcUK customer service, forum community, free delivery and always the first to get new products more than makes up for any premium that they may charge.

I had a look on a competitors site and they are not even expecting stock until August 4th!
We should be enjoying ours almost a week before they get them in and with limited stock who knows how many others will have available.

If you really believe all that is worth extra it's no surprise OCUK like pulling peoples pants down to charge it!

It all balances out over time with the free delivery and today only offers so yeah paying extra for the service is not an issue.

If you have problems with £60, I would think buying a ~£700 monitor is not the best idea.

It's quite simply a premium based on overclockers having secured the majority of the initial shipment as far as I can tell. Thus they control supply and with demand being high - well you know the rest...

I am aware that other retailers may be selling this cheaper and have a similar ETA, but they may only have single figure units.

I don't like it, but that sadly is business!

It would not surprise me at all if some e-tailors are taking pre-orders for stock they do not have. When the ETA arrives you can bet a decent amount it will keep being pushed.
