Personally I think that Moyes would be perfect for Utd - he's done a lot at Everton, and the time is right for him to move on.

That said, if he is retiring, Ferguson is doing it at an excellent time for the club. It sounds like Moyes and Mourinho will both be available, and Klopp would not be an impossibility either. There are some very good managers around at the moment.

Love the fact that Cantona is 33/1. That would be incredible!

They CAN'T announce ANYTHING that could impact on the share price until they inform the NYSE of anything that may impact the share price. That includes SAF retiring. That's why the club can't do a damn thing until the NYSE are told.

When he goes he needs to make it a clean break. Leave completely. Anyone that goes there, with just about the only exception of Mourinho wouldn't cope under his shadow if he's breathing down his neck constantly. it would be 'What would Alex do?' constantly unless he's no longer there.

While David moyes has done great things at Everton I doubt he'd be considered 'top class' and suitable for the Man U manager's job unless SAF gets to choose.

It is a huge job to take whenever the time comes, not only does any new manager have to carry the mantle of being the Manchester Utd manager they also have the huge weight of the Ferguson legacy.

No disrespect to Moyes but I am not sure he is up to that, it is a monumental challenge, he has never really been under any pressure at Everton, that isn't to say he hasn't done a marvellous job, I think we all agree he has.

Bearing in mind my first two points, there are very few out there who can take the Utd job on now.

Two names for me spring to mind, Guardiola, he had very similar pressures at Barcelona and left with a fabulous record. I think we can safely rule him out as he is on his way to Bayern

The other is Mourinho, like him or loath him he has the self belief to take the job and a record which suggests he could deliver at Old Trafford.

Lots will fancy the job, very few have the ability although Steve McLaren is delusional enough to tell you otherwise.

I'm thinking that the huge announcement will be something completely mundane after all of this media hype. I'm not sure who the right man for the United job would be, I don't think it's Moyes, Mourinho is a bit of a brat but obviously has the talent, there's nobody else who really sticks out for me. Even as an Arsenal fan I'll be sad to see Fergie step down, whether it's the end of this season or in the future. Him and Arsene have had some epic duels over the years and he'll be missed, plus who are we supposed to throw pizza at now? :p

We need someone with European knowledge and succes so that rules out Moyes.
We'll get Mourinho, he was the experience and big brass balls to walk in and he has a good off field relationship with Fergie which IMO means he would have no objections to the old man taking an ambassador role at he club.
He'll bring Ronnie with him.

Moyes then to Chelsea?

And that's why I'd rule out Moyes for Chelsea. That and I don't think he fits RA's mold of a manager.

That's what I'm fearing :(. If he does get the job, I don't think he'll be thought of quite so highly at Stamford Bridge.

There is an announcement at 10am.

He's on a plane, coming back from Spain.

Oh lord please be true. :(

On a managerial note, people are forgetting that Moyes has no European experience, which I think would rule him out. As well as he's done, he's not in a great position to take over.

Moyes did lead Everton to quarters in our europa year didn't he?
