The best ever cover version (IMO)

Dweezil Zappa & Ozzy Osbourne's cover of Stayin' Alive was great :)

Lisa Loeb & Dweezil Zappa (again :))'s cover of Ozzy's Goodbye to Romance was also excellent, and I'd have to say that SRV's Little Wing was exceptional.

Who could forget Royal Artist Rolf's version of Stairway to Heaven? Virtuoso wobble board playing there :D

The Lemon reference in The Lemon Song doesn't actually come from 'Killing Floor', it actually comes from 'Travelling Riverside Blues' by Robert Johnson which Zeppelin also covered (You can find it on their 'BBC Sessions' album). It was improvised on the spot by Robert Plant and they decided to keep it in. Dmpoole, I think you were thinking of Howling Wolf. Killing Floor isn't a Willie Dixon song, though they covered several of his songs in their early days.

I agree, I love the diddy version, but I also like The Police version, have it in the car. :p

Yes I am wrong.

My version actually says Killing Floor and not Lemon Song but its still credited to Page Plant Bonham and Jones. Its been 30 years since I last looked at it.

Sorry, I couldn't silence my inner music geek! And 30 years? for shame...an album that good deserves to be played every once in a while.

I've played it a million times but you only look at the label once.
Later on it was transferred to cassette, then I got it on CD and now its MP3'd.
The last time I listened to it was about a month ago because my 16 yr old daughter wanted to listen to them.

That was an eye opener. I was playing Zeppelin in the car and both daughters kept asking who it was because they liked it and I wouldn't tell them. The very last track was Rock N Roll and they recognised it because I do it with my band.
'Is this Led Zeppelin?
'Yeah'
'I thought they were supposed to be heavy'
'They are'
'They're not as heavy as the indie stuff we listen to'
(me pausing to think) 'I suppose you're right but they were heavy in their day'.

I then told them that the term Heavy Metal was first used to describe them and they laughed.

Quite seriously, Travis covering Britney's Hit me Baby one more time, total class. ;)

Or possibly White Stripes Jolene

One of many possible attributions to the term, although the meaning I think is probably about right.

S

Thats how I remember it.
Some journo knicked Heavy Metal Thunder from Born To Be Wild and applied it to Led Zeppelin.

Two more I've just thought of - Soft Cell's version of Tainted Love is a classic, and I also like the Futureheads cover of 'Hounds of Love'.

Oh My God!

Having skimmed this thread I haven't seen Grace by Jeff Buckley a cover of a Leonard Cohen song.

Now if someone has mentioned and I missed it fair enough but if not I'm amazed. It is without a doubt the definitive version of one of the most haunting songs ever.

Do yourself a favour listen to another cover of Grace then listen to Jeff Buckley's and if you are not in a music shop buying his album later the same day it will be a tragedy.

edit: oh yeah and Hurt by Johnny Cash is fairly superb too.

I assume you're actually talking about the song Hallelujah from the Jeff Buckley album Grace, rather than the title song itself. If so, then yes it is a brilliant cover of an incredible song.

Are we allowed re-mixes?
If so the Chemical Brothers Remix of Slow by Kylie Minogue is brilliant.

Ben Folds does some interesting covers of NWA's B.tch.s ain't s..t and the Darkness' Get your hands off of my Woman :)

Yup. Mind fart on my part when I was writing the post, strange because I was listening to the song as I wrote it
