The best ever cover version (IMO)

China Drum - Wuthering Heights (originally by Kate Bush - FAR superior to the Futerheads cover of Hounds of Love)

Joyrider - Rush Hour (as already mentioned)

As for worst, well I saw the Magic Numbers absolutely murder The Smiths' There Is A Light That Never Goes Out live at a small indie music festival this summer (Truck Festival if anyone's interested).

Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower.

He took Dylan's song and made it even greater! :)

Yep - a rare case of the cover being far better than the original. I'd also vote forRoxy Music's version of "Jealous Guy" ahead of John Lennon's.

Always liked Marilyn Mansons cover of sweet dreams.

Jc's version of Hurt is brilliant, but i still prefer the NiN version.

Also love APC's cover of imagine, just think maynard has a voice so much better than Lennon.

A wierd one but I have always loved machineheads cover of message in a bottle.

Ultraviolence - Paranoid...hmm interesting, but not the best.
Johny Cash - Hurt - Whole new meaning
Lawnmower Deth - Crazy Horses...they tried to be serious and lo an behold it worked!!
Fudge Tunnel - Sunshine of your love. This has to be the heaviest and best cover ever!!!!

Rage Against the Machine - Pistol Grip Pump, Maggie's Farm and I'm Housin'

I don't suppose anyone remembers a band called China Drum covering Wuthering Heights from about 10 years ago. That was fantastic!

Oops! I'll read more carefully next time ;)

Good to see people still listen to it though!

Mrs Robinson by the lemonheads, Sympathy for the Devil by GnR are good as well.

I'm not sure about the best cover ever but Fine Young Cannibals version of Suspicious Minds ranks pretty high for me as does Guns N Roses - Live and Let Die.

Believe it or not, but I heard FYC's version of Suspicious Minds before I heard Elvis's. I Still believe FYC's version is a better record than that which Elvis recorded in 1969.

That said, nothing can ever top the version that Elvis performed in Las Vegas on 12th August 1970.

Best ever cover versions are both by Elvis:

Bridge Over Troubled Water

You've Lost That Loving Feeling

The live version of "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" by Elvis in 1969/70 in Las Vegas is definatley a great cover. On an Elvis theme The Pet shops Boys cover of "Always On My Mind" is a great.
