The best ever cover version (IMO)

From now on it'll be 4 as Shawn Colvin - 'Every Little Thing (he) Does Is Magic' is getting added to my list:)

Just fired that one up in Napster... 'tis an interesting cover. Not sure I'd rank it above the original but it is very good.

..most of the covers Cradle of Filth have done :)

this is "best ever cover version", not most ludicrously ridiculously awful band in the entire world with a totally moronic frontman. i can understand why you'd get confused though, they are similar.

That award goes to Slayer - In The Garden Of Eden (In A Gadda Da Vida) or Judas Priest - The Green Manalishi

Lies, damned lies.

Napalm's cover of Nazi Punks **** Off! is far heavier.

And Throat's cover of Crazy Horses is too.

Both great covers.

er sorry but what does that mean ? they are getting back together / there back together ?? you got me all curious now :p

I think he was just pointing out that I'd missed that you'd already mentioned them. I wish they would get back together, they were fanstastic.

Ride by Joyride was another excellent one that someone mentioned earlier.

Actually, Korn and Chins (sic) from the Deftones' cover of Ice Cube's Wicked is pretty pro.

Godhead's cover of The Beatles' Eleanor Rigby is fantastic - High camp and such an improvement over the original.

I preffered the White Stripes version of Jolene. Other covers I like are:-

Stairway To Heaven - Richard Cheese & Lounge Against the machine
Hurt - Johnny Cash
Suicide is Painless - Manic Street Preachers
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds - William Shatner
Live and Let Die - G'n'R
Golden Touch - Stuart Smith

but my number one probably is Led Zeppelin's Lemon Song (A cover of Howling Wolf's Killing Floor). Hendrix was playing his own version at about the same time but I think this version is superior and played with a brilliant swaggering tempo.

I heard an old blues tune on R2 the other day that was about lemons and I said to my mate, "I'll bet this is what inspired The Lemon Song". I wasn't aware it was a direct cover. I'll have to look out for it.

Best cover version??

Is easily John Otway - House of the Rising Sun

Just for it's comedy value. :D

More seriously - Stevie Ray Vaughan - Voodoo Chile or anything the Blue Brothers did was genuinely superb.

I have a rare vinyl copy of Led Zep 2 that shows the Lemon Song wrote by Dixon.
All the other vinyl albums show Plant Page Bonham and Jones.

i cant believe i forgot about that. their whole album was awesome actually, but that was a great cover :)

Oh My God!

Having skimmed this thread I haven't seen Grace by Jeff Buckley a cover of a Leonard Cohen song.

Now if someone has mentioned and I missed it fair enough but if not I'm amazed. It is without a doubt the definitive version of one of the most haunting songs ever.

Do yourself a favour listen to another cover of Grace then listen to Jeff Buckley's and if you are not in a music shop buying his album later the same day it will be a tragedy.

edit: oh yeah and Hurt by Johnny Cash is fairly superb too.

"Where is my Mind" - Placebo's version......can't stop listening to it. Oh, and their cover of "Daddy Cool" is great too :)

And "I am the Walrus" by Oasis...
