The best starting 11 in the world, what's yours?

Spanish football is absolutely painful to watch due to the ridiculous diving. Anyway...

Buffon

Alves
Vidic
Ferdinand
Evra

Ronaldo
Scholes
Gerrard
Messi

Torres
Rooney (if in form) or Villa

Would like to put in Fabregas but hmm...not as good as Stevie G or the ginge *yet*

Except Evra didn't keep Messi quiet, at all. Messi was head and shoulders above his team mates and, on another day with the rest of his team mates actually looking like footballers, he'd have been the creator of atleast 3-4 goals. He was tearing in to the box from the right time and time again.

Messi shone despite being on his own out there and that is the most remarkable thing.

Quite right! Are people forgetting that Etoo was out for the whole season, he's prolific if he's fit! he's showing this season that he is. Henry was the only real striker they had and blatantly his head was all over the place last season.

I mean if you actually look at performances Messi should have been world player of the year last year but you just couldnt ignore those stats.

What spanish football are you watching?

Messi was unbelievable against Man Utd last season, he made Ronaldo look as inferior as he really is, I also agree that Messi not only had to play against Man Utd's defence, but had to play the role of 10 players since the rest of his team were awful.

Cole better than Evra going forward? No chance.

Evra is better than most LW's going forward.

He is, and Clichy maybe aswell, the difference is only that for the past year Evra's had a reason to burst forwards and get crosses in, Clichy doesn't really get on the overlap and cross it in anymore, as Arsenal just can't play that football without a willing/fighting runner to get on the end. Likewise Chelsea aren't the same team as a year or two ago, mostly Cole has Kalou, or Joe "hogs the ball, cuts inside and shoots" Cole so he doesn't have someone to play the left wing with, like earlier at Chelsea or like with Henry/Pires to play off.

Evra is the most effective at the moment, because the team around him complementing his position is FAR better than other left backs, that doesn't actually make him better though. I think Cole's probably the best around, or he certainly was a few years ago. Each on their best day I wouldn't think theres much between Cole/Evra/Clichy, all three are VERY very good and if you had any of the three you wouldn't bother buying anyone in to replace them as you'll find no one noticeably better in the world.

The only thing is you could say Evra's the most composed infront of goal than the other two. But I don't really think it counts against Cole/Clichy for barely ever scoring because you don't really need it from a a left/right back.

Yeh there missing Robben, never knew why he was so underated at the club!

BEcause Mourinho is a complete moron who got rid of lots of their best players?

NO idea, but that is the reason looks less good. Neither Joe Cole nor Kalou play as real left wingers running an overlap with their left back so thats a whole part of his game missing that he simply can't use even if he wants to, and with Anelka much as I think he's great running onto the end of crosses isn't his thing either, not Cashley's fault either.

Likewise Clichy isn't worse this year he's simply had an ever changing and weakened left wing, no one to cross to upfront and no cover from midfield. In those circumstances Evra wouldn't look as good either. All very good tbh, not sure Abidal really comes close to those 3 and Lahm, is fairly poor a lot of the time tbh. Yes he bagged a goal(IIRC) in the euro's, but he was still pretty terrible in several of their games.

I mean think back, Neville is consistant while he's not a technically gifted player, he's got a very good cross on him, decent passing, very little pace and no "tricks" to get by people. Yet with beckham in the team those two worked the overlap maybe better than any other partnership in the world for years. Neville looked great because Beckham played great with him, and vice versa. Likewise he looked great again with Ronaldo in the team, but not at first. You can't shine if the players around you won't let you, but it doesn't mean you can't and Clichy and Cashley have proven it over several years just how good they can be when in the right setup.

get a grip mate.

get a grip mate.

What he said was true though. Messi was far and away the best player in the tie. Messi at his best, which he has been this season and in parts last season, is the best player on the planet.

The way he's played this season is as good as a player has played in a very long time.

I disagree and so did the people who voted for world player of the year.
