As much of a **** that he is, he is the best left back around imo. Unlike a lot of the other left backs mentioned in this thread, Cole can defend and does so extremely well. There are others that are better than him going forward now but he's the best overall left back.
I would disagree. All of those aren't the greatest defensively and you'd always feel you had a chance at getting at them. I can't think of too many (if any) wingers that have got the best of Cole over the course of a game.
Cole's biggest problem (other than being a ****) is that up untill this season, people were used to seeing him flying down the wing at Arsenal. He doesn't get enough credit for how good a defender he is though.

Clichy is so underrated by non Arsenal fans 
Admittedly he's had a dodgy season, but last season he was unreal, reminds me of Carrick in the way that Man Utd fans love him but nobody else seems to appreciate him nearly as much as they should.

He improved a lot after his first season at the club. He's come back in to form this season. He's still a ****. I still hate him, and I still wish bad aids on him.
Clichy is so underrated by non Arsenal fans
This season he's made several unforced errors that have cost us points. If he gets back to form we have 2 of the best FB in the league.

He's better going forward that Cole has been over the last couple of years but Cole is an excellent defender. I'd have thought a Manc would know that after the amount of times he's had Ronaldo in his pocket over the last 4 seasons or so
Can't remember the last time Cole did tbh. It's a fallacy. Maybe 3-4 years ago, but Ronaldo had a LOT of joy against him both this year and last. I would rate Evra higher than Cole defensively for sure. Let us not forget, Evra was good enough to keep Messi quiet twice.

Nah Cole's better in defense, Cole is a good defender, he just makes a hash of things sometimes. Evras a better full back overall tho. The main problem Chelsea have had this year is the loss of CB's. Personally dont think Boswinga is very good defensively either. Too weak for the PL!
Messi is a different kettle of fish this year tho! Mentally and physically!

No he didn't. Messi was the best player from either side in the semi. Im not saying he's a bad defender but he's not as good as Cole imo.

I wouldn't put him close to Cole defensively. Offensively he's on better form right now, but Cole at his best is better at both IMO.
Except Evra didn't keep Messi quiet, at all. Messi was head and shoulders above his team mates and, on another day with the rest of his team mates actually looking like footballers, he'd have been the creator of atleast 3-4 goals. He was tearing in to the box from the right time and time again.
Messi shone despite being on his own out there and that is the most remarkable thing.
