• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

***THE BF4 BENCHMARKS THREAD***

Be careful when buying two dual kits to run in quad, even if they share the same primary timings its not a dead cert all the subs will be the same which may, admittedly rarely, cause issue.

Listen up :D

Today the beta becomes open, so thousands of fresh users will have the chance to test and provide feedback, please quote this bottom part for me if you would be so kind...

Preset used:
Map size:
Resolution:
Gpu & clock:
Cpu & clock:
Min:
Max:
Avg:
Vram usage:
Gpu usage:
Cpu usage:

I recommend everyone use their respective beta drivers.

Use fraps for m/m/a and gpuz to record vram, which ever tool you like for cpu stats.

Thank you.

I'd also recommend waiting for the full release. It's going to be better optimized and all this talk about needing an upgrading could be wasted.

True but I'd stil wager its going to cripple an i5. On the graphics front certainly, we've had one beta driver release, once these mature on retail along with game patches things will get a lot better.

^the issue was the same in bf3 though not as severe. Fairly sure a recent high clocked i5 bottlenecked a pair of 7950's in bf3 to the tune of ~80% per card. Same situation, stuttering, frame spikes etc...This is why I'm fully expecting the same thing on bf4 release, the cpu handles a fair bit of the load and the cards can only work as hard as the cpu will allow, which stops as soon as all threads are maxed out.

So don't expect miracles on release, this isn't a brand new engine built from the ground up, its the evolution of an existing engine in frostbite.

I'll try the ht on/off thing tonight and try create a bottleneck though it may be tricky with a single 780.

Ok some basic testing on 4 vs 8 threads using an Intel core i7 4770K @ 4.6ghz with a GTX780 Phantom GLH @ 1110/6200.

All ultra preset, all on a busy 64 player conquest round, 5 minutes of testing aka me getting killed...

8 Threads HT on:

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
56655, 726062, 42, 123, 78.031

CPU Usage ~ 70% on each thread, GPU 99% near constantly.

Felt lovely, nice and smooth.

4 Threads HT Disabled:

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
4628, 64937, 29, 89, 71.269

CPU usage at around a constant 98%, GPU usage fluctuating, it did hit 99% on a couple of occasions, I will get some better details on this shortly

Quite jerky to play, really feel those lows.

More to come!

According to this review Haswell i5 as Good as i7 in BF4, So much bs and parrot repetition on forums sometimes lol

http://www.hardwarepal.com/battlefield-4-cpu-gpu-benchmarks/#_

"The results at Ultra settings are as expected, the i7 4770k , i5 4670k and FX8350 provide more fps than the other lower range CPU’s but not by much. We were kind of suprised that the i5 4670k gave similar (if not better ) results than the i7 4770k "

See my testing a few pages back, 4770k feels and performs much better then a 4670k, the latter threatening to bottleneck a 780 & that was at 4.6ghz! I'll drop to 4ghz tonight and see if I can force a full on bottleneck.

Here is an album of 1440p screenies I found on reddit (max settings supposedly):

FTFY ;)

You'll never get me on a normal server ever again. I had enough of bullet sponges in the beta. Speaking of this, Dice haven't even got the hardcore preset working properly yet. We have to use custom hardcore for now. Shocking that they haven't even sorted it and we're one day from release. If i didn't love the game so much id give them the finger and not buy the game. Sadly they got me by the short brown and curlys.

Whats the kick limit on team kills per round on hc? As god knows I love to team kill a camper that's bringing the rest of the team down.

This thread is a bit of a mess (no offence to anyone) and we could do with a new benchmark thread for this game. It would be good to see some graphs from users like Alex has done (nice one mate).

Agreed.

Or at least need someone willing to set a bench standard and compile other users results. I did try this earlier in the thread but it got insta burried under a gif war and the 7th pointless vram debate.

Nice one greg :)

Will get some 780 results up tomorrow and some 780 sli results later in the week :)

What map is generally the heaviest, & how long are you running the bench for?

An excellent start to life with BF4...

My mouse doesn't work while running around on foot, it moves up and down to fixed positions, won't move side to side. Brilliant.

Mouse does work as normal in a vehicle, just not on foot. I'd rather uninstall the game then buy a new mouse if its a hardware issue.

Cm Storm Sentinel advance (5700dpi, sensitivity in game to 20%) and windows 8.1 using 331.65.

Worth noting it worked perfectly in the beta.

Edit: Seems to be directly related to windows 8.1, was on 8.0 for the beta. Brilliant.

are you on win 8.1 by anychance ?

Yep :(

Everything besides being on foot works perfectly.

Cheers flopper, been looking at that post, tried the fix for compatibility mode etc... still the same.

Also tried having mousemovementrecorder running, still the same thing.

I don't even understand how this is a ******* issue, surely and I mean SURELY someone at DICE must have picked up the final copy of this game and gone "****, hang on a min guys, my mouse doesn't work with the latest windows OS"

They did this with BF3 too, release a so called 'beta' that does nothing to benefit the final outcome of the game acting only as a publicity stunt. Absolutely fed up of lazy **** developers pushing out public betas with a price tag on it with the "we'll deal with it later" attitude.

Two latest games I've played....Batman AO & BF4, guess what, they're both broken. Its just lazy.
