***THE BF4 BENCHMARKS THREAD***

Its not bad for me, last time I played against greg on bf3 (siene crossing iirc) he went something like 7-1 on my sorry ass :D

Found someone using a wall glitch already *sigh* shame the wall didnt stop me bringing the pain

I was hitting a peak 72% usage per thread on a 4770k @ 4.6ghz with a single 780.

I wouldn't be surprised if i5's are falling over in this, they did the similar things in bf3 when paired up with enough gpu grunt.

Will see how close 4 threads of haswell come to choking a single high clocked 780 tonight, could be interesting if its only a few % away meaning 20nm cards next year could cause single card bottlenecks

If I am reading this thread right then surely its better to buy a 8 core AMD CPU ?

Not always as ipc also plays its part, iirc someone hit a similar bottleneck on an 8 core amd chip with dual 7950's On bf3. All cores at 100% gpus around 80%. In theory though the amd chip should fair a little better then an i5, though sb i7 should really be a minimum requirement for someone wanting to get the best from bf4 with multi card setups :)

I was playing last night with my new 7990

At ultra I was getting 40-50fps, was very laggy but I'm guessing it's because it's a beta?

System spec
I5 760@4ghz
2x4gb xms3 1600mhz
Gigabyte 7990@stock

Looked in afterburner and hottest temp was 66 and my cpu bottlenecks my 7990 to 56% useage :( need a 4770k quick! Lol

Classic example of thread bottleneck with a 4 thread chip unfortunately, looks like its upgrade time!

@Matt I had no drops that low what so ever, lowest over 4 rounds was around 45fps, could be the drivers need fine tuned?

@Kaap, that graph shows the engine utilises 8 threads and that you have no cpu bottleneck, will likely run better too given you have 6 physical cores :)

Going round in cicles here guys. Agree to disagree?

If folk actually bothered to send me all their results perhaps we could get all the results side by side and actually see whats what? ;)

I will fire over an email now Paul. Sorry for my part in ruining this thread.

Thread isn't ruined, its just near impossible for someone to drop in and pick up some useful information :p

@Matt, correct, I had an avg drop of around 4 frames and min drop of around 10 frames going from smaller 32 to larger 64 player, vram usage only increased by around 80mb however

Greg do you find HT causes any performance problems? My friend had to disable it on his 6 core sandy otherwise the game was stuttery. Once it was off it was smooth as silk.

I use HT fine on my i7 though so maybe its just a 6 core issue.

Was this in the beta or bf3? As iirc early on in bf3's life one of the big stutter fixes was to kill ht.

Going by kaaps usage graphs bf4 like bf3 is topping out at 8 threads.

Thanks for that really does show have more than 4 cores is going to be the norm soon. I wish Intel had cheaper 6 core CPUs, I don't really fancy going to AMD with an nVidia GTX 680 card... doesn't sit well with me lol

Dont forget threads can offset the need for cores, sniff out a cheap 2nd hand 26/700k and you're laughing ;)

riiiiight... anyway back on topic think I'm going to hold on until after the game is released and see if it runs any better.

What do you mean pgi947?

I mean a good hyperthreaded chip can compensate for lack of extra physical cores, hunting for a hex core intel chip is always going to be an expensive venture, so something like a used 2600k (4 physical cores 8 threads) will work wonders as the load is offset to the ht threads :)

you'd find a decent 1155 board and a 2600k for well under £250 all in :)

Ah good its not only me then, PSU I think is on its last legs, took 4 attempts to boot from cold today. Just making sure its not something associated :( :p

Agreed. One can only hope they do this time. I'm pretty sure Battlefield 3 had a built in benchmark, but it was removed on final release.

But but if they included the bench tool in bf3 we wouldn't have gotten to enjoy operation sword breaker a 100 times over :o:mad:

I swear to god if I find even a hint of that damn mission in bf4 someone at dice is going to get a slap.

I did a benchmark a while back and i played it 8 times one after the other. I still have nightmares about it.

Oh i keep forgetting, they' don't have schools where you come from.

What the **** are we stopping here for? Our objective is twenty clicks north of here.

Sit rep? I'm up, I'm up, I'm up, but im ****** up.

light that building the **** up

the plr's the right people, they dont make em any righter

stop being a hippy montez

Stop stop stop!!! You're triggering my sword breaker syndrome :(

*sits in the corner and crys while having flashbacks*

I think due to kaaps mad bf skills he should be awarded the flag of the DRPK so he has an excuse :p

I think people should be more worried about the ultra specs for watchdogs then bf4, recommended ultra spec = as many threads as you can lay your grubby little hands on and a 2gb vram minimum

Hahaha, I was laughing a goodun as I see it coming down :D (with my parachute)

Played with Pgi last night and let him stick his head out to act as cannon fodder while I cleaned up :D

Team game???? yer right :D

I like to play my part :o

Need to unlock some other weapons though, really can't get to grips with the stock weapons.

Since Nvidia paid Ubisoft $5m the VRAM requirements for AMD based systems have doubled to 4GB, meaning it won't run well on the 290x as it only has....

....oh no wait...

:p

What's more interesting is the recommendation of 8 or more threads/cores, seriously heavy on the cpu by the sounds of it.

3930K or pick up a binned haswell bundle from OcUK, either should be fine for heavy usage with dual cards.

I say binned as you're likely to hit 4.8ghz minimum on high end air, 5ghz+ on water which will let everything stretch its legs

Either would be a wise choice though & used 3930K route may even work out cheaper :)
