The Big WWE Wrestling Thread

So er... Extreme Rules.

WWE Champion Randy Orton vs. Batista (Steel Cage Match)
World Heavyweight Champion Edge vs. Jeff Hardy (Ladder Match)
John Cena vs. Big Show (Submission Match)
ECW Champion Christian vs. Jack Swagger vs. Tommy Dreamer (Triple Threat Hardcore Rules Match)
Intercontinental Champion Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho (No Holds Barred Match)
United States Champion Kofi Kingston vs. MVP vs. William Regal vs. Matt Hardy (Fatal Four Way Match)
CM Punk vs. Umaga (Samoan Strap Match)
Miss WrestleMania Vickie Guerrero vs. Santina Marella (Hog Pen Match)

Can't see any belts changing hands here i'm afraid, although I think it would spice up the Hardys' feud if Jeff was to win the WHC.

Punk to win the Samoan Strap and end the feud with Umaga, allowing him to cash in the MITB contract soon? Maybe even tonight?

Cena to beat Show with the STFU - and to be the most predictable, boring match of the night.

I'm probably looking forward to the Hog Pen match the most, if only for the sheer hilarity that will most likely ensue. :D

The cena match sounds retarded, especially considering he had the stfu on big show a lot of months back. Does my head in when the wwe writers seem to assume anyone watching has a memory span of about 30 seconds.

Its gonna be the standard setup from the looks of it, for weeks hes not been able to get he hold on big show but tonight "by some miracle" he will.

Can't see there being any big surprises. As usual. I'm looking forward to the Umaga match though. Hope it's on first so I can tootle off to bed.

my picks for this are marked in green

Okay, so I got that bit wrong.

I called that one though! :p

And that one. Doesn't matter if it was with the rope, it was still just wasting time waiting for Cena to win.

And that. I didn't realise it was with real mud! :D

Was a decent PPV really. All good matches, bar the Submission one, but at least it gave me time to go put the kettle on.

8/10 overall, I expected the ending as Jeff still has a way to go before he's trusted with a strap for longer than a few hours. Shame really, as it was a very good match, and I thought for a second when he kicked that he just might make it.

If there was one other match that was sub-par, I would say the Cage Match. Orton, rather than wrestle, just spent the time trying to escape and as soon as Dave could hit his finisher, it was all over. It was half decent for the duration but over far too quickly IMO.

According to company sources, new WWE champion Batista is scheduled for surgery on Tuesday morning for a torn bicep, which he sustained prior to his match with Randy Orton at 'Extreme Rules' and was a likely factor for the match being so short.

Batista just came back from a hamstring injury at the beginning of April and it is no secret that he was rushed back to TV and asked to work a full schedule with house shows.

One would expect an angle to be shot Monday night on 'Raw' and lead to Batista dropping the title

:/

wish i hadnt gone to bed now, looks like extreme rules was actually a decent PPV for a change :p

What a naff ending

I hate CM Punk, and Jeff Hardy would have made a good champion, now we have a pointless 1 month tops title reign by someone with the charisma of a potato

It's nice for it to go to someone else rather than Edge IMO.

Feel a bit for Jeff as he deserved it off the back of that performance, it was a good match.

Orton to exercise his rematch clause tonight and batter Batista then?

Whilst CM Punk is one of my preferred wrestlers I can see that being a common opinion now there were clear boos the second his music hit let alone the hushed silence once he actually won the title

Maybe a heel turn for Punk???

CM Punk should have been a heel ages ago, and this is the second time I've said it in this thread. He's actually got great charisma, it's just that so far his face run has purely traded on his "indie darling" status. Bring back the straight edge, "better than you" heel from ROH, and he could be top.

I watched this last night as I'd had a few beers, been a few years so i'm not 100% on all of the names but; i thought it started off pretty well, that 4 way match was pretty good and the fight where chris jericho unmasked the mysterio guy was a really good one with some well executed moves, took a huge dip with that stupid match with the rope though. that was turd, the fat one was Umaga? not surprised he got released to be honest. The steel cage match was pretty good if a little short though if you say Batista was injured then fair enough. Then the John Cena/Big show fight; what a load of crap was that, ok first off it was obvious from the build up how it was going to end, not a problem it's pro wrestling after all (although the build up to this seemed particularly turgid) but the actual submission itself?? the foot came off the rope and there's no leverage anyway, it was awful. completely cheap by both the wrestlers and the writers. Also would i be right in saying that Cena is one of the most boring characters in wrestling history? The last match was pretty good I thought, some nice stunt work by both guys, I was pulling for Edge to win but it wasn't to be but it was good timing with CM punk coming in at the end.

I'd have been annoyed if i'd paid to watch that but not bad for a free show.
