The Big WWE Wrestling Thread

-- WWE's creative team is trying to slowly sneak more PG-13 things back into programming even though the company's official position is that they are rated-PG and staying that way. There is an idea that if the guest host gimmick for RAW is still going on in late August, to use The Godfather in his old gimmick as the special host for the August 24th RAW in Las Vegas. Those on the creative team say they want to push it more but don't have a green light from higher-ups yet.

be the best thing that could happen. I've been watching some old hell in the cells and you just couldn't get that kind of stuff anymore. (Undertaker v Mankind  )

I don't understand WWE Corporate anyway. Surely they've seen the ratings difference between now and the Attitude Era at it's peak.

Why would they try and steer it away from that at all? It was a proven winning formula - the loss of children being able to watch was more than made up for by older viewers flocking back. It just seems fundamentally dumb to push it this way.

Tute it's Linda McMahon ... she's on the board of education for Connecticut and as such it WWE was all "attitude era" it would reflect badly on her.
Once Vince takes a more back seat role or when TNA ratings finally surpass SmackDown things may well change - but Vince is not going to go until HHH retires from the ring really.

FS, why does Cena have to open? HHH is a MUCH better opener.

EDIT: And HHH makes it interesting ... best mic work as I said

EDIT 2: I swear I just heard one beat from DX tune before the Cena tune played for them to exit

Arena looked a bit "retro"; not as flashy and hi-tech as the usual WWE Arena for some reason - perhaps due to all the banners hanging down, dunno.

The Tag Team angle with Big Show was interesting - and the match was actually pretty good; not as good as it would have been with Edge there as Big Show is not exactly an amazing wrestler ... but still good.

The US scramble was a bit stupid, it devalues the title to do things like that - I hate multi-man matches.

HHH vs Cena vs Orton:
Interesting to see that HHH gets a bigger cheer from the Crowd than Cena upon his entry; usually HHH comes out before Cena to ensure that the crowd cheers for him as they are less likely to cheer once Cena is already there - however this time in the reverse entrance HHH got the bigger cheer.
I wish HHH went back to his style of matches as he had while he was heel, where he was basically indestructible - right now every little kick he gets to the leg he has to sell, before he used to simply shrug them off and carry on.
Good match overall, I swear Orton has been watching Depp as Jack Sparrow based on some of his stumbling antics during the match. And daaaamn it's been a while since we've seen HHH use the sharp shooter - but what a way to script it ... to have a tap out to a double submission.
But seriously, I know this is a no DQ match ... but cmon, did we really need to have Legacy help for the Orton win? He tapped out, surely he must be out :/
I guess it might get explained on RAW tonight

Women's:
First match was one of the better women's matches I've seen (if not the best) in a while, but the second one was let down by Marysse being a crappy wrestler.

Inter:
Could have done with a few fewer crotch shots of Ziggler during the match,
And Ziggler should have won as well

Great Hardy vs Punk match though, and it seems Hardy will work until Summerslam at least then.

Pretty poor event tbh

Tag Title Match apart from the initial shock of Big Show being Jericho's partner was a big boor fest, seems creative wasn't sure which was playing the part of the heels and which was playing the part of the faces

ECW Title match although wasn't a bad match the whole program leading up to it now is just boring they've been doing it that long, hopefully now Christian will be put in programs with other wrestlers and freshen up ECW again

US Title match was one of the better matches of the night, a little all over the place but there were some good high flying spots which set this match above most of the others on the night

Women's Title match was without doubt the best Diva's match I've seen this year, very hard hitting and competitive. Wouldn't re-watch the event to see it again though obviously

WWE Championship was the match of the night, great triple threat match

Diva's Championship was without doubt the worst Diva's match I've seen this year, utter rubbish. Maryse is hot though

IC Title match was another bore fest

World Title although good to see Hardy finally win the title I've hated the whole feud between the two so really didn't get into this match whatsoever. would have been much more engaging if they hadn't turned Punk heel although maybe I'm just bitter about that....

Vince was very unhappy about how the tag match went; so I think we may see the Jericho + Big Show team scrapped soon

I think the angle is to build friction between Edge and Show anyway - there was all that stuff with VG and the affair and it was never really explored.

I can't say i'm bothered that they decided to scrap it... interesting to see who they go with though, maybe as it's Unified they could have Orton drop his belt and take up Y2J's offer? Would make for an interesting angle with Legacy.
