The Black Friday 17 Thread! - pls make sure you understand competitor rules

Most people say woah massive TV when they see my 49” - although it is a diddy house :p

Last year I could not tell any ‘material’ difference between the OLEDs and the LCDs set up in Richer Sounds save when they demo’ed some particularly dark clips for a potential purchaser. To the extent there was a difference I wouldn’t say it was worth double the price of the TV - although I would say that because I was ‘cheap’ and ‘only’ spent £1k on a TV :p

When a decent 60” OLED is available for a grand - that’s when I’ll invest in my next TV... although I suspect I’ll be waiting for awhile!

You won't be waiting too long possibly 2 months when this year's models become EOL mid January to march. They will tumble in price but you have to be quick before stock runs out to make way for 2018 models. You have to be at the right place at the right time miss the deal and that TV is gone forever.

I still don't think OLED is refined enough. I'm waiting for much bigger improvements to be made. Especially in peak brightness.

When the smallest 4K TV manufacturers make is 40" then there is no way 42" is the average for the largest TV within the average home. Go onto John Lewis website and just take a look at how many TVs they have for sale under 46". The 4 people who live closest to me that I know personally it's 60", 65", 65" and 75".

The main TV I use is 50" plasma in the bedroom. I'm thinking of getting rid of the 55" Sony as it was bought for console use but I've recently switched to PC and it doesn't get a look in now. My 43" LG is basically just for show. It's hidden inside a feature wall which opens up to reveal the hidden TV inside it. Basically first time people come into the living room they say this has been the only living room I've seen without a TV, then I reveal it's hidden inside the wall which opens up. It's completely hidden inside and I've even had a guest call it the James Bond TV.

This is why I am in no hurry to sell the 55" in the games room. I use this whenever I want a bigger screen with more people around. The 43" is on a articulated bracket so I can pull it through its hidden enclosure and bring it up close to me. However it stays inside when people are around so everyone can see. I think it's the perfect size for its usage so Do hope they make a 43" OLED in the future however if they don't I'll just upgrade the other 2 TV's first.

42" may be the smallest TV available now. But most people didn't buy their TV now. Most people keep a TV until it breaks down.

I'm an uber-geek and I've still got a 5 year old 42" as my largest TV. I'm in the market for a new TV but I'm not paying over 1K EUR so just sitting it put waiting for OLED prices to drop.

The LG55G9A7V is hovering around 1070 EUR right now so if I see one in Black Friday sale I may finally upgrade.

No new TV until mine breaks.
Would have to upgrade so much kit to go to 4k and don't have any 4k services anyway.

Panny gt30 46in. Probably would go 50 but that's it. Basically it's money I don't need to spend. Quickly get used to whatever you have anyway

Only reason I want an upgrade is that I bought the 42" when I was living in a Hong Kong shoebox. Now I have a relatively palatial living room and sit 5m from the TV I'm struggling to read the UI on some games.

Not interested in 4k either...hence I'm looking at the 2017 LG OLED 1080p displays....I suspect it will be their last 1080p line.

I want a 4K TV for my Xbox one x

But there’s so much crap to wade through with specs and input lag and blah blah it takes the shine off looking

Problem is also compounded when you have a good 1080p TV replacing it is annoying.

Whoever gets the closest to £400 for 4x4TB WD Reds gets my money.

will hopefully pick something up cyber Monday but tbh I doubt it.

Does anyone know of a good 'alerting' system that can flag up deals for specific search terms of products?

While it is tempting to just buy any random collection of 'bargains', I'd prefer to be more disciplined and specifically target things I already know I want:

-Fridge Freezer
-Mobo, RAM and CPU upgrade
-Office chair
-Sofa
-Sky Q
-4k 60"+ TV
-Probably need a new AV Receiver to work with the above :/
-Group 2-3 car seat
-London hotel rooms

Could also do with finding a good deal on iPhone contract & iPad for my dad.

You can set up alerts on HotUKDeals which match a specific term you set. I have various setup so when some one drops a deal on something i want (such as say Google Home) it notifies me when the deal gets hot.

Am i being blind or do Amazon now just have a huge page of 1000's of items in the sale rather that previous ribbon where things became available at certain times?

Might get a new fridge if I find one that's decent. The compressor on this one won't turn off and runs 24/7, regardless of the dial setting. No idea why :(

I did not

EDIT - I take that back i can't see an Upcoming filter.

I can see Prime Early Access and Lightning Deals but nothing to say upcoming.

EDIT 2 - Somehow ended up on it!

My electric toothbrush died a couple of weeks ago so picked up a replacement on Saturday thanks to an Amazon deal.

£99 down to £35, plus an extra £3 off — so I picked up two, as my wife's current toothbrush is going the way of my old one.

Other than that, I'm not really looking for anything. I've been contemplating the LG B7 OLED 55" for a while, but even with the deal prices It's a lot of money to part with…

Just as a note, not sure if its Prime members only but there's quite a few deals where you get free money for topping up/buying gift cards with Amazon. So do that first before buying :)

Can't believe how much chinese/eastern random company crap is flooding Amazon's sales this year. I hardly recognise any tech names when I look at them.
