The Black Friday 17 Thread! - pls make sure you understand competitor rules

It's not the wattage you should be looking at but the lumens.

Wattage is how much power they consume. Lumens is how much light they produce.

Why would you want a high wattage bulb?

You would want a high lumens if you're after powerful led bulbs

OK then lets call it high lumens but in general higher wattage LED bulb have higher lumens. You still can't get them for your claimed 50p !!!

I can see plenty of RR's ranging from £420 - 570 on business contracts for joe public so its not too difficult to understand the fire brigade can bag a better deal

The fire brigade isn't a magical organisation that can get things below cost. It's a public service and therefore has to be seen to and adhere to the highest of standards.

If other civil servants don't have access to these deals then I'm calling BS. How could they justify it for a start there is no reason for their staff to be personally leasing cars for them to barter on their behalf to secure such deals.

I need some new work shirts, did some looking about and found TM Lewin have all/most theirs at £19.95 from £45 or £40. Free delivery and free return over £30, so ordered a few.

So the fire service can not get prefential rates on their fleet? Are you really telling me they pay the same as everyone else?

And for the record, there are as much dodgy goings on in public sector as there are in the private. Your deluded if you think the public service adheres to the highest standards.

I suppose him being allowed to add his wife to his insurance so that she can also drive the car is also a violation? Believe it or not but there are also perks in the public sector.

Who said it's personal leasing? I said his car is through the fire brigade which would imply its a company car. He gets a cash allowance or a car from the list and he chose that car.

You sound like some one who thinks they know it all and comes across as very arrogant. All because some people choose to pay more than what you do on lights.

You can call BS as much as you want, I'm done!

Amazon have annoyed me. I had two orders, one for hue bulbs and one for headphones. I cancelled my bulbs and noticed my headphones had gone to “return requested”. I spoke with Amazon chat and they advised that they had been shipped together so both were to be returned. He apparently fixed this and I was to receive both items and send the bulbs back.

I logged on this evening and Amazon have issued the courier with a stop notice to retrieve the headphones...so they’ve had to re-order them :-/

I thought I'd managed to keep away from the BF sales but just succumbed to some Beast Solo 3 headphones for my daughter and I think I'm about to press go on a larger SSD for this laptop. Damn, almost made it through the weekend!
Crap. I caved in and got the SSD too. But I did buy direct from the manufacturer and got cashback as well as the BF price. So quite cheap really.

Now struggling to avoid buying a Thinlpad X1 on offer for Cyber Monday (which ironically would render the SSD redundant).

So he isn't a normal fireman then if that is the case. The way you posted suggested it was open to them all. It's a company car given to those with specific jobs. He would likely need to pay extra to get a range rover sport unless he is very high up.

I should know as I work for the government. These schemes are only open to certain individuals with certain roles they aren't open to everyone. Also the allowance only normally covers a bog standard car in most cases unless you are very high up and has a job that requires constant travelling on a daily basis by car.

Anyone else really underwhelmed with the Black Friday/Cyber Monday deal this year? It's like many retailers tried to turn it into a week of mediocre sales instead of a proper 1/2 day firesale and the result is just meh.

it's been the case for many years now. genuine deals have little to no stock. others have been available cheaper throughout the year.

i bought 2 dashcams which are new models so never been cheaper. also got some circulon frying pans and baking trays. the third was a package deal where you get a torch, knife, tactical pen and a stocking with a chance of being upgraded to stuff over £200 for £50 all in.

all the other deals weren't good enough. i'm in the market for a smart door lock from yale but it wasn't discounted anywhere so looks like full price purchase now.

Like last year... not much worth looking at - although the various OLED deals were pretty good.

Last year I don't think I bought anything.

Year before I got 2x 1TB SSD for £150 each though, so I was happy with that one.

On top of the HyperX goodies managed to buy some baby bottles. Down from £30, had saved them in my list when they were £30 only to be notified of a lightening deal @ £22. Happy with that.

Wife wants a new hairdryer for xmas, missed out on a GHD deal but managed to bag a Babyliss pro @ £63 down from £120...not a bad deal according to camelcamelcamel:

Highest * £120.00 Sep 15, 2016
Lowest * £62.99 Nov 26, 2017
Average + £96.86

Babyliss make cheap tarted up crap. They aren't a quality manufacturer with top of the line products. Nowhere near to justify £120 on a hairdryer. This goes for all their products it's just a name tacked onto cheap crap that is made to look fancy.

You should have just bough a ceramic element revlon for £25.

This is part of their new 'professional' range and as such not in the same league as their other items. All reviews rave about it and similar if not better than the likes of GHD etc.

Didn't go into this blindfolded and have done my research. Who also knew that you shouldn't brush hair when it is wet, Nor should you blowdry straight away but wait till the hair is around 85% dry?!

a hair dryer is a hair dryer IMO. i think i meant this one
Remington D3010 2000W Power Dry Hair Dryer
it's £12 and has a ceramic element at the front for even heat distribution.

it's crazy how Dyson thinks it can charge £300 for a hair dryer that does nothing different to this £12 one apart from look fancier. i use the hair dryer around the house for various DIY jobs when the wife isn't looking. Like dehumidifying the front headlights on the car when the seal was knackered and rain got in before putting a new cover back on with new seals. so i jammed it into the gap in the wheel arch, etc. came out with scrapes on it etc. still going strong. use for heating up regi plates with sticky pads for easy removal and drying plaster, etc. so i would never spend more than £20 on one as it's going to get a lot of abuse and they seem to do the exact same job. plenty of rave reviews on it.

what justifies the extra money for a professional version? does it blow more air or heat it up faster or at a consistent rate? seems like you have fallen for marketing guff.

As with anything there is always a cheaper alternative...the wifes current hairdyer was around £20 which I bought maybe 8 years ago, still works ok and dries the hair fine but getting on a bit and becoming a safety hazard.

A few things I noted about the Babyliss and also with most of the more expensive professional grade ones:

3 heat settings / 2 speed settings vs the 2 of the usual cheaper brands
More powerful motor giving a quicker drying time
More expensive dryers have a narrower head vs the cheaper brands making it better to control the airflow when styling
Longer cord - 3m vs around 1.5 - 2m of the cheaper ones

Generally speaking it seems the £80 - £150 'professional' hairdryers do have much better features than the cheaper counterparts...however when you look at the Dyson this is really where it gets silly and no better than the ones half price.
