The BMW Question?

Yup, about sums it up for me too!

SD1 Vitesse, my father had one of the first ones on the road and it was FANTASTIC!

edit: unless you mean the SD1 was a big let down? Vitesse was special I know that much!
the best analogy for the SD1 i ever heard was it's like cricket.
slow, over complicated and everything stops at the first sign of rain.

the Vitesse could be devastatingly quick in the dry but in the wet you were either talented or injured/out of pocket.

I come from a talented gene pool ;)

Looks a bit of a handful

Never had any problems with mine, wet or dry :D prefered the back end stepping out @ 80 in that, than in the brother in laws 328 @ 40

VBH in her younger days, I would you know :D

As for Beemers - I prefer the older shapes E30, E36 than the newer ones, not sure why...new ones just dont 'do it' for me

 .....suprised the Nova didn't do better though, what with 220BHP and probably a good 600kg less weight than the SD1 :D

her driving stank in it though - she really shouldn't have been letting the back step out on the corners like that, lost the nova any advantage it had!

cool vid however :)

I bet 50% of people who slate them have never driven a decent BMW in their life.

My Mrs played merry hell when I said I wanted a BMW. I just ignored her and bought one, and now suddenly she wants a BMW.

for me its more of a question of the fact that they just dont "do" anything for me

cant really say why, i havent made any unfounded oppinions on their quality or whatever

the 5 and 7 series arent really that common either. the 3 Is, but they do nothing for me, so id never buy one.

What do you mean "do nothing" for you?

BMW are by far my favourite brand of car and so I may be a little biased here, but compared to VW, Audi and Merc, I think they're leagues ahead.

Audi's have a very nice feel to the way they drive, I just think they're hugely underpowered for the engineers they have working on them. The M division of BMW know the score and always come up trumps, the M5 and M6 kind of prove that!

[edit: the RS4 proved what audi can do, so why don't they put more effort into their lower range cars??]
BMW were just a badge, now they actually have value for money.

I'd still buy a noble over one though ;)

That is why my 330 is fun for me, and why I'd never consider any of your pipe-dream sheds. Try actually getting out there an driving one, you'll soon find that they're quick enough to knock that chip off your shoulder ;)

But I'm not wanting all out speed, neither do I care for the comfort. I am wanting something that I find fun to drive, I like the looks of the interior/exterior and overall proud to own. Also I want a car I can work on and not take to the garage for just about everything. I want to use the car to learn with, so I can get my hands dirty and work on it.

I wouldn't really call a Triumph Dolomite Sprint a shed really. Which to be honest is my favourite, and has been for a while.

just that

Subaru Impreza

for all its boxyness, poor spec and tacky interior

i love. It just does it for me. Same goes with the Audi A4 S line.

3 series on the other hand, doesnt appeal. Dont care how well it handles/ fast it goes / well speccd it is

just doesnt appeal to me. Maybe its their image, but i just dont like them. If i was given one, i'd sell it and buy something else instead.

Probably in the same way that nothing in the ford/vauxhall/mazda/toyota/renault/peugeot ranges do anything for me. There are good cars in all of those ranges, however i am not in the slightest bit interested in any of them.
