The BMW Question?

I dont think I have ever slated BMWs and would have an M5 or M3CSL at a drop of a hat although I couldnt realistically afford it.

However i would only get one if there were not an equivalent Mercedes to go for. For me BMW doesnt quite have the same sense of occasion as driving a high end Mercedes Benz.

Becuase, IMHO, they are different. For luxury motoring, a Mercedes Benz is superior. An S Class wafts you down the M6 like nothing in the BMW range can. It's the sort of car you get when you just wish to effortlessly cruise. Whereas a BMW will take you down a decent A road with the sort of smile the equivilent Mercedes will not raise..

But let me guess, you prefer driving your accident damaged Saab which you won't get the bumper repaired on? This doesn't make an awful lot of sense. If your spending power is such that you can afford a £10k car then why have you yet to spend the £200 that would stop your Saab looking like you just picked it up from a scrapyard?

Driving around in a car with mismatching panels becuase 'I can spray them cheap with a rattlecan if I wait to the summer' does not initially at least suggest your finances are such that £10k cars are affordable?

Indeed, fake willy waving....

Or is this is a bit like the whole 'I am not director of IT sort of' saga? :p

To be fair dude it could be simply that he doesnt want to "waste" the money on something that will depreciate. I could go and buy a 996 Turbo right now in cash if i really wanted to and didnt have my savings earmarked elsewhere, but i drive a banged up 75k mile Leon TDI with 90bhp.

Agreed about the bumper though, wtf :/

I'd like to rephrase my earlier statement:

BMWs without a 'sharknose' just don't appeal to me...Apart from the M-koop and the Z4M-Koop.

That is all.

Your forgetting my track record aren't you?

Yes I can afford to buy one but nobody will insure me on one.

The Saab is easily insurable and I don't think I'm going to find another car of equivilant power that will be insurable.

The Saab is a great car and plan on having it for 4 years then importing something meaty over from the States :)

And if you really must know the reason why I haven't had it sprayed is because I'm saving cash for a 2 week sports fishing holiday to the Bahamas in April....mmmmkay?

You appear to have shot yourself in the foot there.

You can't afford to spend a few quid on spraying your bumper because you're putting the money you do have into a holiday.

If you have money right now for a 330 - surely you have money to pay for the holiday outright and respray the bumper in 18ct gold?

No I can afford it, but I'm choosing not to spray it, due to the exchange rate being so silly at the minute I might very well buy a lot of stuff out there and bring it back a lot cheaper than I could have here.

EDIT: This isn't actually my thread, so let's get it back OT shall we?

same here i'd buy a bmw in a minute but i'm not **** :)

nah only kidding had a couple of beemers, e30 and a e36 including a money pit m3 so i know the potential there fantastic motors but personally i (in other words SWMBO) prefers the A4

They are defiantley sturdy, well engineered and hold their value. I used to own a 320 ( I know not exactly a stunning model) but it never really did much for me.

Each to their own but not my cup of tea.

I sorta thought the same about beemers.

Then I bought an e36 323i for £2k last year. Tremendous thing for what it is...

He bought a brand new Astra.

We are human, we make mistakes. Albeit mine was a very stupid one :p

I can assure you I won't be doing something like that again.

But you said you can afford one, clearly not if you cannot pay the insurance.

So the funds are allocated elsewhere, so you can't as you said afford it then :p

Whats the difference between a fishing holiday and a sports fishing holiday?

Wrong, insurance companys won't actually insure me.

I mean c'mon, who in their right mind would insure a 18yo with no ncb any more 3 speeding points and a written off 15k car on a 330ci?

So the funds are allocated elsewhere, so you can't as you said afford it then :p

Yes I can, If I wanted to, I could go and pickup a BMW right now.

But I've got other plans for money, so I'm not doing so. (Plus I just don't like them)

Whats the difference between a fishing holiday and a sports fishing holiday?

Whats this got to do with anything?

Fishing holiday is you go away on a holiday to do fishing among other things.

Sports fishing is solely fishing where you catch things bigger than a boat, have $400 a day guides and do nothing but fish.

But that is ones own opinion.
