The Callisto Protocol

I don't think it's Denuvo, the symptoms are only when entering a new area and the camera pans so it does seem to be shader compilation. Denuvo would spike the CPU too. Also Res Evil had the stutters but it ended up not being Denuvo but just the additional copyright protection the devs of that game had in combination which they fixed months later with the patch that removed all DRM from the game.
Alright, this is why we hate ALL DRM.

Well that's a shame. I bought it this morning and was looking forward to playing it. I'll fire it up for an hour or so and check it out and then stay within the refund window.

It happens too often this stuff nowadays. :(

Only just woken up, havent tried mine yet. Will give it a go in about 20mins time. Really disappointing to hear these reports though as I was very much looking forward to this one. Fingers crossed it runs ok for me, wouldnt be the first time a game has run fine for me but cack for everyone else, heres to hoping.

Lol who actually pre-orders a digital item? Especially when crap like this is released. Everyone should know this by now, the gaming industry is a shambles.
I suspect people do it because theres nothing to lose. If it turns out rubbish just refund it, no money lost. Steams guaranteed refund policy has done more for preorders than anything.

Yeah but it's just unnecessary, it's not going to disappear, it's a digital item. And people have got stuff to lose simply because this launch is dreadful. Just wait for results then buy imo. But hey ho people make their own decisions.

I mean it does run good to a degree, With ray racing disabled it's over 100fps at all maxed settings 3440x1440 - It's just the usual perf hit that halves the fps when RT is enabled which means DLSS is needed or a workable AI upscale solution, hell even XeSS might have been doable lol but the FSR solution here is broken whether on purpose or not remains to be seen.

Having said that, aside from the new scene stutters, the game does run at a steady 50fps+ mostly just pure raster performance if RT shadows are turned off and RT reflections set to medium.

If FSR worked and there were no stutters, then all the other quirks are easily ignorable IMO.

I think a few might do it if they have ropey broadband and want to have a good run at a preload for launch day.

Ah well if the issues are mostly to do with RT then I might well be fine with it. I almost never turn on RT in games anyway, its never really impressed me all that much. Trying the game out in a few mins so we'll see what happens.

Yeah I guess that is a factor too. I don't have that issue thanks to 5G  the days of slow downloads are long gone!

RT reflections are well worth it, if the GPU you have is capable of running it at least even if on low/medium. Reflections play a big part in immersion, normal SSR is good in many games, but RT reflections just dial it up further. RT Shadows I don't care much for though so that's off as per above.
See my screenshots where all RT is off vs the RT reflections on medium, you can see the difference that makes in that area, it's more obvious in other areas where reflections off floors and glass etc are nice.

This is one of the games I have been most looking forward to but the stutter has just ruined the game for me.

Although running the benchmark it recommends using ultra settings even on lower settings the stutter is terrible, like it's loading a scene or something. It often happens at a point where there would be a jump moment, but the stutter just ruins that part.

So this now becomes the first game I have refunded on Steam :( hopefully it will get sorted and I'll pick it up again when it's cheaper.

Ah well, at least I don't feel like i'm missing out with the current state of the game - will wait for fixes and a cheaper price, I was always willing to bite at about £30.
