pR0 t1P:

Don't spray tyre dressing (namely Autoglym) on your tyres immediately before going for a drive. It just flings off and into the wheelarch, leaving your tyres looking like you've done nothing to them (but your wheel arches smelling nice).

You're supposed to wipe round the tyre with a dry cloth before driving:p

Personally I'd reccomend the Dodo Juice Supernatural wax, it's expensive but well worth the extra IMO. I used it on my car last week and it looks great. You can buy a 30ml panel pot for £15, should be enough to wax the car at least twice (with two layers). I have a few pics, they're pretty poor quality as they're taken on a Galaxy S but you should get the idea of how good the supernatural wax is!

I'll do a little digging on it, I like the idea of the Blue Velvet being for darker cars. I've seen some people do panel comparisons so I'll see what I can find.

Some of you know i'm working as a car detailer/valeter for a company in the North East.

Now another company has popped up basically ripping our name and his gimmick is that he's steam cleaning cars. Now this is something that I wouldn't dream of doing as surely steam is incredibly bad for a cars paintwork?

Now the problem is that he's had the local paper do an article on him and now all the eco friendly bible bashers will want their car steam cleaned.. and if their cars start to rust then it's going to affect our business as our names are very similar!

What are peoples thoughts on this?

How near is his name to yours and who registered it first?

Us and very similar.

We are ****** Auto Detailing.

He is ****** Valet and Detailing.

He's basically setup a cover in a gym car parking and offering a gimmicky product/service. I very much doubt he does detailing but i'm going to give him a call and get a quote for a full paint correction and see what he says.

Seriously though... in 6-12 months, that car is going to be a rust bucket isn't it?

Im not sure is steam really any more intrusive than powered water? How hot is the steam? I really have no idea.

Surely it would have to be hot if that's the only thing you are using to clean. A thing he's mentioned is that he doesn't use any products (chemicals). If it's just cold steam then that wouldn't really do anything or offer any form of polish or sealant.

gets the dirt off? perhaps thats all he's interested in doing!

I have seen the results of someone cleaning the front of a Freelander 2 with a standard steam cleaner and that did strip off laquer and paint on some parts as it was too hot, but steam can't surely be any moister than water!?

Gonna wash my motor today and post it today, then post more pictures tomorrow, because I swear the dirt comes back almost straight away. I'm extremely fastidious - two wash buckets, one with shampoo and the other with fresh water to rinse the wash mitt with, I rinse first, wash next, rinse again and pat down with chamois. I should probably invest in a clay bar. I use this as a guide.

That's a side note, how do you dry chamois leather effectively?
