so the weather is quite nice today and the car needs a clean and polish but im after some help regarding the alloys, i would like to know whats the best way to clean the inside of the rim? take the wheel off and clean or just turn the wheel full lock? or is there a better way

Cheers

^ depends on the gaps between the spokes and whether you can get you hand through them or not.

Personally, for a 'proper' clean I would take them off.

It also gives you a good opportunity to check the tread and condition of the inside side wall and swap the wheels around (if appropriate).

It's worth taking the wheels off for a proper clean every once in a while as no matter how much you bend and reach you'll never do it properly, treat the inside with Iron X while it's off and give it a good scrub, also gives you a good opportunity to de-tar the arches while you're at it.

Hi Guys,

Question time.

So, couple of Saturdays ago I gave my car the full shabang for the first time. I washed it, clayed it, washed it, dried it, polished it, waxed it. Took the better part of the day but it looked the best it ever has. I was gobsmacked how much crap the clay bar lifted off when I assumed the car was clean.

It looked great for a week, but its been raining here, dirty rain which has left marks on my car. The wax I used was the "Collinite 476 Super Double Coat Wax", which apparently is supposed to last a few months. How do you clean the car without undoing all my hard work from a couple of weeks ago? Surely I don't need to wash it, polish and wax it again?

Apologies for being an amateur!

Been told to add a towel in to dry which makes sense bu then someone said about waxing. But I'm unclear when to wax or if you're waxing instead of polishing or..... quite frankly it's a lot more in depth than a quick wash!

A quick wash is for the lazy!

Rinse
Wash
Rinse
Dry
Polish
Wax

That's the general order of business really.

I certainly don't polish every single wash, it would be highly pointless, and if you're not de-contaminating (Iron-X, Claybar, etc) before polishing, then in all likelihood it's going to be a bad idea anyway.

Rather than the just first rinse I'd probably opt for a pre-wash/TFL remover, then a rinse.

It's not a bad thing, it just means your polish won't last as long and the paint will build up dirt quicker. You'll also lose that deep gloss a good polish and wax gives.

The polish is done once and the wax keeps the polish there year round. That's why I use Colinite 476s as it lasts pretty much a whole year.

Edit*
Should have mentioned not to polish every wash!
