I like keeping Poorboys Natural Look Dressing for my interior as I tend to run out quite a bit quicker using it on the wheels as well so bought Simoniz tyre gel to see what that's like a while back, never used it up until now. It applies more like a toothpaste kind of gel and appears to have a thicker lustre than Poorboys does on tyres. Poorboys shine lasts a long time though but this looks more "fresh" if that makes sense.

Excuse the curbing, that will get sorted at some point, promise.

Also I have sorted out the perfect mix of water+snow foam :D

Quick wheel question for you.

Wheels are a pain to keep really clean, so once in a while ill give them a proper clean and wax them.

Once waxed theyre much easier to keep clean, for a while

Is there likely to be an issue with going over the wheels with a spray wax once theyre washed.

Would take no time at all

Please take them off when you spray them or stopping will be an issue.

Conscript came over today and we cracked on with getting a good polish on his MX5. Still not getting perfect results and not sure if that's due to technique or a lack of cut from the AF stuff we're using, will have to find out for the future.

Nevertheless the car still got a good going over externally for a nice enhancement on the paint, the finish looked good and the beading now matches the amazing beading on the cloth roof (that really did amaze me, and I'd happily watch that roof for hours!)

As it arrived:

Once we'd had our way with it:

Absolute pleasure meeting you today Dave, thanks for the ride out in the car afterwards and I'll definitely be in contact next time I'm down your way, thanks for the help and look forward to next time :)

Wow, stunning pictures....they hide the bits where I got lazy trying to buff that bloody Collonite off...think it could do with another once over just to get the bits I missed.

Pleasure meeting you too and thanks again for taking the time to polish the car. I spent most of the drive home looking at dat reflection in the bonnet and kept looking back at it when I parked at home and walked away :)

Much appreciated...hope we get to meet up again soon :D

Rule One of Collinite, don't put it on the paintwork!

Such a pain to buff and ended up with pains in my elbow joints. Now I primarily and only use Autosmart WAX. Straight on and off and I put it up there with the likes of DODO an Swissvax.

A quick wash should get rid of any missed bits :) Dat reflection was rather good, hoping it stays for a while!

476S is a complete and utter pig to buff off, but the beading is worth it. Buffing pad for the DA is on the shopping list lol.

Bought some special offer Simoniz spray wax from Tesco today. If its anything like the rest of the Simoniz range it should be a more than acceptable product.

The aim of the game is to see if spray wax can be used as a quick simple treatment on wheels after cleaning them to stop crud from getting really engrained

Purchased a snowfoam lance and some Valet Pro PH Neutral snow foam. I've also bought a new pressure washer, went for a Nilfisk again but this time the 120 3-6. Looking forward to foaming the car at the weekend!

476s isn't a pig to buff off! Man up  ;)

Also, I never knew Drive did a show on cleaning:

ALSO, the Simoniz tyre gel, whilst giving a nice finish, didn't last long. One drive in the wet and the edges started to wear away of it. Poorboys Natural trim gel lasts weeks in the same rain conditions.

I'll just use the Simoniz stuff on other trim bits on the outside.

Picking up a new car tomorrow. Is it true they come with some sort of protective wax that protects the paintwork for a while?
I want to protect the finish as long as possible (its a Citreon with metallic paint so I could probably scrape the paint off with my fingernail) so would it be worth giving it a wash/polish/wax right from the start?

Uther - I would give it a good clay over to start off as these cars from new are usually sat collecting dust. I would use fair liquid to remove all the previous wax etc so you have a nice clean base to start. Polish & wax.

Please don't say you mean fairy liquid!

Fairy liquid isn't best asvised due to the salts in it - Edit: Ok its cheap washing up liquid apaprently has salt in no fairy. Another option would be to go with a strong APC mix. However neither will actually remove wax, they apparently just inhibit the wax for a while so appears the wax is stripped. There is a thread on DW explaining it in detail (no pun intended)

Best option is shampoo designed to strip lsp's or clay should remove everything on the surface.

Found the thread though http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=310244
