I want to to give my alloys on my E39 a good clean and some decent protection for the winter. Thus far I clean them with Meguiars shampoo and leave it at that. What products should I be considering?
 
Looking for a spray detailer/wax to top up the car over the winter.

can anyone suggest one that they have used and comment on durability?
 
Spray waxes typically last, for me anyway, between washes. Unless it was my bi annual epic fest, I would spray wax every or every other wash. Again, anything Chem guys will do the job Sythentic Spray from them or Sonax speed wax will do you right

Gtechniq C2V3 or Sonax Xtreme Brilliant shine beads for absolutely ages and is easy to apply. The former is still beading well on my car and I applied in July & (6k miles ago). Or something like Auto Finesse Tough Coat for another recommended sealant
 
I got my car cleaned by a professional today (well, the valet manager at work). And he's done a great job. I'm not sure what he's put on it, but is there anything I can do to make sure it stays in great condition? Or is it a case of just giving it a rinse every week or so?

He's polished and waxed it, I know that. And did something involving oxidization on my alloys.
Car is a mk2.5 MX5 if that helps!

Clean with a ph neutral car wash like Autoglym car shampoo...do this every week or so to stop contaminants building up. Spray some Aqua wax (or a similar product) on as you dry it with a microfibre cloth to keep the wax topped up :)
 
Thanks Captain. Just ordered some Autoglym Shampoo & Wet Wax from Amazon. Now I just need a good photographer to take some photos for me!
 
Big post - lots of pics.

A chap of the 350z forum offered us some detailing for a decent price and for a 10yr old car with a lot of pain defects he's done a cracking job. Still have stone chips obviously but the front bumper/bonnet needs a respray anyway. I have to say I'm really impressed with his work and I love how well he's managed to bring the blue out of the Zed. :cool:

Car was dropped off so the before's (running out of light):














Citrus pre wash, then two bucketed and iron max applied to wheels:




At that point I was out of light so into the garage to be dried,clayed,taped up and paint depth readings taken:




















Settled on a polish and pad combination, used the flex vrg for correction:

Bear in mind the correctional ability it was a lovely finish left:




As opti coat was being used I wanted to get the best finish possible possible so tested out these 2, been so impressed with the Britemax Blackmax:

Couldn't pick it up in photographs but the Blackmax just left it looking more blue whilst the menzerna looked to have a touch more gloss the blackmax side looked better.This was then wiped down with Spies Heckler panel wipe (ignore the bottle) and dusted leaving the following:

Did you use the same combo on the plastic and headlights? Mine was corrected when I bought it a few years ago but the headlights and black trim is jusT looking a little scratched. Need to take my DA to it at some point :)
 
haha! Soz Howard, I just copied an pasted from the Zed forum! :p

Was rather impressed with his work and for the price he's done a stonking job. No more swirls!! :cool: And I now have some decent protection which will last a good year or so - which should just require a 2 bucket method clean rather than any waxing and polishing.

How many days was this?

Seriously considering this myself as the M3 is long term, looks fantastic!
 
I really hate this forum sometimes, here was me thinking cleaning a car just involved sticking some shampoo from Halfords on and job done. Now iv only gone and spent £70 based on peoples recommendations through this thread :/

Results after the weekend.

2-3 days - I was away for a long weekend so I told him to take his time as I wouldn't be around. He'd need a handful of days to let things cure and so on. He really is meticulous with detail. Whilst it is now raining and so on, the water is beading and running off the car, and the protection applied should last over a year.

Well worth getting it done properly. I just don't have the time or space to do this - so this was a perfect compromise for me. He really enjoyed working on it which helps, he's a petrolhead himself so you know it'll be looked after. :)

£300 inside and out - but that was a discount for 350z forum members however I'm sure if I put in a good word he'd offer decent discounts :)

I have decided to get my car valeted, cleaned and waxed

talking to the local place where ive taken previous cars for quick washes, I asked them to quote me for waxing the car with all the trimmings, and the've come back and said polish not wax, so am I right in thinking wax is better than polish to protect the exterior of the car?

I said to them I want the bodywork protected for winter, and they come back with

To protect the paint work we offer a service called auto gylm this is a treatment applied to the pant work to protect it,

The cost to do that is £299 Inc. Vat,



Or we have can just do the valet which includes the polish,



If its paint work protection you are after then the auto gylm will do the job, but it its just to improve the look of the paint work then the polish will be fine



I don't want to spend £300 to clean the car ! I don't need a major over haul, I want it just waxed, what's your advice guys?
 
That is a lot of money! Just give it a good wash, some super resin polish and a sealant on top. Cheap and easy would be Extra Gloss Protection. HD wax is the best bet to protect it all winter. Glad I do it myself - cheaper and I do a better job tbh.
