Iron-X is excellent. I asked the same question myself fairly recently.

The only other wheel cleaner I've used is Wonder Wheels and that was just painful to use with the brush.

Iron-X works well even without having to agitate it.

I used Iron-X and it made light work of stuck on crap. Clayed and sealed with Poorboys. Was hard work but now any dirt washes off easily.

So decided to have a go at the 5 series today after the excellent results from the Alhambra.

However, I decided against the Tardis step. Simply didn't have the time. Then only done the front half of the car with the clay bar. Not because it wasn't really necessary, but because it REALLY was necessary. The clay bar was getting pretty manky pretty quickly. Much much worse than the Alhambra did. I suspect the previous owner actually looked after that car well. Anyway, I simply didn't have the time to spend on the 5 series, and it's going in a few months anyway, so not as bothered. I may well finish the rest of the car in a few washes time, if I have more time. I just realised that if I was going to do it properly, I'd have no time for anything else.

Anyway, so didn't polish it either. After hearing about this BSD stuff earlier in this thread, I thought I'd give that a whirl too. So used some of that. It got dark though, so will have a look at it again tomorrow and see what like. Did the glass with Fast Glass too. Might polish it all later.

Anyway, that's what was done today.

Iron-X or similar

Cheers guys, looks like I'll be ordering up some Iron-X this weekend.

I went mad and bought this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00BYOVFIC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Also got the Wax pads and some extra polishing pads.

I have some G10 Finishing compound (will this be suitable)
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003V3ME8Y/ref=sr_ph?ie=UTF8&qid=1466585998&sr=1&keywords=G10

I have a high speed mains drill i plan to use with it.

There seems to be some good reviews for this product, and i look forward to using it :)

My wifes cars paint is in a sorry state, so i will use it on hers too :)

That device on a drill is going to be cumbersome as hell to use, looks to have a small pad too so will take forever. G10 is horrible stuff to use too.
Get a proper machine and polish.

Wet sand it back, then a lot of polishing. Not a minor job really

Not really. I did an mx5 recently with black paint which had a lot of RDS even after numerous sets of compounding. Decided it was taking too long so just sanded it with 2000 only. Could take it from 2000 to an excellent finish in just 2 sets with Scholl S17 on a medium pad using a DAS6. It was easier and got way better results than just compounding it.

Gave mine a wash this weekend, it's quite nice, after all the effort of paint correction, polishing and waxing, that a weekly wash brings it back up just as nice again.

I think I need a tougher compound to use next time though, SSR2 isn't strong enough for the tough Audi paint I think, there's still a good few swirls if you look closely. But I'm happy enough for now!

I need to remove the wheels to properly clean and seal them soon.

Edit: Sorry for the lack of tyre shine :D

Cleaned the wheels and waxed them with Collinite 476S. I've had the same tub since about 2008 and really can't fault it. I'm sure there are better products out there but for what it cost, how long its lasted, how good it looks when applied and how well it wears, I love it.

The wheels look great and have a really good glossy look to them now, not to mention should be easy to keep clean.

Just used a rotary polisher for the first time ever. Last time ill ever use that ****.

Glad i only did the boot lid. Its took me half a hour to get it looking half decent again... not used a cutting polish, just the meguiars stuff but it just went all manky on the paint work and its took some rate elbow grease to get it off.

Obviously done something wrong, ill stick to the good old hands n elbow grease in the future.
