What clay (mitts are the go-to these days by the sounds of it?) do people use? Having washed my fez and given it a "stroke" :p it feels pretty rough. Guessing it's not been done in the 2 years its been on the road.
I use Bilt Hambers. Only requires water. I've only used it for the first time this weekend, but seems good, gets great reviews and is cheaper than the competition.

Anyone got any recommendations for what to use to clean/shine/protect a Jerez black BMW? It's very shiny black and is apparently quite hard to keep clean.

I really want to get it looking its best but importantly protect it for the winter months. And especially guard against bits of dirt/trees/bird muck etc.

Here's the car.

Sorry if this has been asked before....

So been doing some research and have come to realisation that bilt hamber autowheel and probably other ph neutral wheel cleaners can also be used as an iron remover for bodywork.

This is only because I was looking at iron removers and noticed they could be used for wheels too. So thought hmm the opposite could also be true, and popped bilt hamber an email just to be sure, received a prompt reply from Pete Hamber himself stating auto-wheel can be used on bodywork, but it does have higher viscosity and degreasing properties.

Will give it a go and see how it goes, once I've run out of this auto wheel stuff will probably try korrosol next time.

This week I will try the following routine, can anyone see any issues or recommendations?

Rinse
2BM
rinse + dry
iron fallout remover
rinse
claymitt
rinse + dry
wax

Obviously there's a few extra things that could be added but then the list could be endless i.e pre wash, polish/pre-wax cleanser etc :p Might add a few more of those in future.. :)

Well numpty of the day goes to me, just spent 40 mins polishing the inside of my car with what I thought was Mr sheen, went to put said Mr sheen away in the cupboard to fine that I had instead been using Raid fly spray lol.

Warm water with a microfibre cloth is what I'd suggest. If you've got various marks, grease spots, etc to remove then make a diluted solution with an APC instead of just warm water.

Then always start with the simplest option (i.e. warm water + microfibre) and see if you're happy with the results. If you're not, you can always go on from there.

Welcome to the shiny black club!

Here's what I used on mine:

Today's efforts. I usually wash at the local handwash place, but I decided to go full full detail mode after hearing about the G3 clay mitt.

Megs Gold wash
G3 Clay mitt
AG SRP (2 coats on key areas)
Farecla G3 Super Gloss Paste Wax

Rather pleased with the results!

I am a huge sonax wax convert. Washed the car, parked under a tree, rain washed all the sap and dust onto my car. Heavy rain on Saturday and the car is spotless having washed off all of the grime. A good shine on the car too.

Only thing I would say is if you live in a hard water area this can give mixed results, with regards to cleaning interior trim quick squirt of vinegar in the warm water can help lift more stubborn marks. Then I generally go over again with the Meguiars Interior detailer as it gives a really nice matte finish to everything. Bit expensive to literally clean everything with it though!

What product can I use to "protect" paint from bird poo.
Seems to eat right through the spray wax I use. Loads of etchings all over car due to bird poo... I plan to remove them all but want to protect the freshly polished surface.

What's best? That doesn't take too long to apply and isn't stupid expensive?

Hard wax, and get it off as soon as you see it.

It's weird, the past couple months have been bird poo free for me. Either they've migrated somewhere else, or they're building up to something sinister.

Now I'm afraid :(

But when I did get bird poo, I just pour hot water over it, then gently prod it with a wet cloth. The hard wax takes care of the paint underneath.

This hard wax... Can i apply it with a DA? I tried using the simonz gold one and it took me for ever to buff it out, really peed me off and i only did the bonnet.
