*** The Car Cleaning Thread ***

After the freezing temps of December, being in France for Christmas and New Year, followed by what seems to have been week of constant rain - today was finally a dry day to clean the car.

I used a few new products, Tac Systems Mystic Bubble, CarPro Retyre, GT Iron Oxide and some CarScope nozzles.

The car had the typical winter traffic film, and the wheels were looking dull considering they're the gun metal kind of colour 5 dark holes that really pop when clean.

Below are two shots of Retyre at work on the tyres, first just sprayed on and second with aggitation. Really potent stuff, I can probably dilute to get more legs out of one bottle even with doing two passes.

Car was pre-washed with Built Hamber Touch-Less, and a contact wash with Mystic Bubble which is a great shampoo. I would say it's slicker than CarPro reset, cleans as well and is easier to rinse. Towel dried with FSE, FSE is another one of those products that I don't see myself moving from.

Car Pro - ReTyre
Certainly does look the real deal I might have to grab a bottle, especially for the warmer periods as the sun really does show up dirt beneath any tyre dressing.

I will also give Sams Detailing - Wheel and Tyre as this looks really potent and seems to melt away the dirt from tyres and hes local to me, support small businesses etc.

Genuinely decent products from him in my experience.

A while back I asked about a trolley to store all the gear on. Well, last week I scoured eBay and found a proper catering trolley for sale. A cheeky offer of £50 and a short drive later:

It has been commandeered as teddy bears double decker bus temporarily but I am looking forward to getting all my gear stack on here. Possibly an attachment for the jet wash too. Height-wise it could be better so I might take to customising it -- i.e. bottom shelf for large buckets, but I'm sure it'll be fine. I can now wheel all the gear from the outbuilding to the cars. Woop!

Don’t think I’ve ever seen the car so dirty after just a week, the roads are grim. Probably not much point in doing more than a quick foam, pressure wash and leave. Next week won’t be any better. At least the frozen floods have mostly cleared.

Edit: looking at the forecast and how cold it still is I don’t think there’s much point. Will do it next weekend when it looks much milder.

Edit 2: decided to go for it, just needed to thaw out the pressure washer in the sun. I do love autofoam, a good soak, 50:50 dilution, very little pp on there, a car covered in salt and mud, no contact wash:

The roads are shocking. Washed last night, car was gleaming, then 10 miles local driving and it looks just as bad as before the wash.

Certainly notice how the roads that don't get salted actually dried up today so would have been fine, but the rest were so greasy and wet.

Definitely going to buy some of that Car Pro Tyre cleaner...looks like it works well on the pics.

Mine got so bad yesterday had to stop to clean the number plates the salt was so thick you could not see them anymore = £1K fine now if stopped & reported!

Took me 3 hours to carefully get all the salt off without any scratches as the cold air had baked it on

Now even though its still dark & cold have to do the diamond cut alloys :)
