The Cryptolambo had gone to the moon... Time for Cryptolambo 2!!!

Just got confirmation that the container with my tyres was delivered to the distribution center this afternoon.

Can finally get rid of these crap pirellis and get some MPS4S on!!!!

I may have missed it but how come you've had to get them shipped in. IS it just the sizing thats a shortage of.

Covid has meant michelins stockpiles are all but gone. They only ship over container loads at a time and the ultra high end stuff simply has been pushed back in production for their volume products.

Its taken this long for the tyres to be manufactured, allocated to the UK and sent over on the first shipment.

Not sure how true it is, but told this particular size for my fronts (255 30 20) only 6 of them allocated to the UK in this shipment, and I have 2 of them reserved from the central distribution hub.

So got the call they were here, so popped down to my local trusted tyre garage to have them fitted.

As usual the VIP treatment, drove it right in and the boys got to work.

Off with the old ones first... turns out the rears were a bit difficult to get off due to the size :cry:

And the replacements:

Heres a size comparison of the rears, just to show *how* big they are.

While the fronts were off took a moment to check out the ceramics, which were in fine condition

New tyres all on, torqued up (which, isnt in the manual, so if anyone in google is looking for this the Wheel Nuts of a Lamborghini Aventador need to be done to 160nm)

Back home after a couple of miles scrub in and the feel is just 100x better. And they arent even ready to go yet.

Re-torqued just to check, one bolt had a bit of give in it but the remainder were fine.

All done for less than a grand, so happy days.

I love it. Taking a Lambo to what looks like a dodgy garage.

wow that garage is filthy as hell with what looks like a hundred years of grease and dirt on the walls.

About right, but its a family run business and they are honest, hard working lads that respect the cars and do a good timely job for a good price, and if I didnt trust them I wouldnt take the car there.

They even ordered in black weights for balancing just for my car rather than the silver ones.

just seems surreal seeing such a flashy car surrounded by striking contrast, I bet some peoples faces drop when they see inside :p

Youd be surprised, a lot of the supercar / high end car owners all use this place for the same reason, seeing a fez, maz, macca etc there isnt a "rare" sight :D

Same really for the place the alloys get refurbed.

Yes, compared to litchos where you could eat your food off the floor its black and white, but you dont need somewhere like litchos to change tyres :)

If that is the VIP treatment, I'd hate to see the normal treatment.

I have no idea why you would take a car of that class to a scruffy back street garage like that. Also taking pics of the workers, errr what now.

Wake up on the wrong side of the bed again Nath? Have some sugar in your coffee, might make you less of a bitter person.

160nm torque on a wheel nut.....

I think the hub nut on my car isn't too much more than that!

Yea seems high to me, sure it's not 140nm, 160nm might be the Performante? (opinion based on 5 seconds of looking online)....

Came straight from a lambo techs mouth, will ring a different dealership and check.

The guy changing it looks like a total dude. Should be on a California beach not a tyre shop :) Bet it was roasting in there! I like those sorts of places though, no bells and whistles but people you can trust who will do a great job.

One of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Super careful, respects the cars. Just everyone there (including the owner and other fitters) was laughing so hard when the stack of the Tyre, the alloy and the machine was taller than him so he couldnt lift the tyre off, so they got him a "booster alloy" to stand on and even then needed a second person to cajole it off.

WOW

Honestly every time I switch from *insert whatever tyre was on the car before* to MPS4S it blows me away at how transformative they are.

I thought the pirellis were bad, but just took the car out for a 20 mile run down some local twisty roads and a high speed run back and the response and feel of the car is like im driving something completely new.

No longer is the car struggling for grip in first and second, its just hooking up and throwing me down the road.

The feedback on corners is so much better. My inputs to the steering wheel are direct and obvious rather than somewhat vague.

And you know that its only going to get better.

When you pull up and the tyres look like this, you know they have some serious grip.

The drive back involved some wet concrete that someone has spewed all over the road by the time I got back it was already dry and the scorching temperatures meant getting any chemicals on was a bad idea.

After the clouds turned up and cooled everything down this evening, some autobrite citrus wash made up strong to dissolve away the calcium and then gently washed away with a hosepipe through raceglaze water purifier.

The PPF is pretty repellent to dirt actually as the rest of the car was just given a spray down and its basically clean!

Insurance hunting time.

And not a good start.

Compare the market, cheapest quote £3k, most companies wont even quote due to the value.

Pace ward £2k

Got brokers out looking.

Maybe they haven't seen the new drive to make the area look nicer:p. Are you particular young or have not much no claims? (Fwiw I've no idea how much a quote for a car of that value should be, however I'm interested to know so I'm going to visit comiare the market :p).

31. 13 years no claims. No points, no convictions, no speed awareness courses :)

So, insurance quotes:

Admiral: £900
Pace ward: £2049
Keith Michaels: £1700
First point: £2000
Manning UK: Waiting on quote
JMG: Waiting on quote
Aviva: Wont quote
A Plan: £10,000
NFU Mutual: Wont quote

Have you tried A Plan 'Private Clients'? https://www.aplan.co.uk/private-clients/ They pretty much exclusively deal with supercars and powerfully built directors, might have more underwriters to pick from.

Yes see above :) Sod off quote.

In addition

Adrian Flux: £6k
Direct Line: Wont Quote
AXA: Wont Quote
Locton: Waiting on Quote
Performance Direct: £7k
Principal: Wont Quote

The main issue the underwriters are coming back with is a combination of Age (apparently Aventador falls into the "hard supercar/hypercar" brackets rather than the likes of McLaren or Audi R8 which fall into the "Soft supercar/high performance sports car") so theres a breakpoint at 35 years old where the premiums will drop mega. And also the driveway parking.

If I got it garaged or was 35 or older the premiums would be all under 1k from most companies.
