The current AGP situation - Availability and whats coming.....

Hmmm, these 7800GS sound just the ticket for the interim but are they worthwhile going for 6600gt owners?

I'm likely to stick with my current box ,for at the very least, till Q3 this year. Would the extra puff from the 7800GS really show?! I only ever play games at either 1024x768 or 1280x1024.

Even at these low resolutions is my processor likely to scupper any improvements the card may of made?

Cheers, Paul.

A 6800 GS would give improvement over what you have so a 7800 GS which has twice the amount of pipelines over the 6600 GT and double the bandwidth memory interface will be a lot quicker. ;)

What makes will there be at launch? I'm hoping for a BFG 7800GS OC version.

I think i'll make the jump, the X800 I have is broken, needs to be RMA'ed as soon as I can find the reciept, then i'll sell the replacement, and get one of these.

Many will think i'm stupid for going X800->7800GS, but i'm not going to do an overhaul until AM2 is well established, it would be silly to jump in two-footed at release, gonna wait to see what chips/boards OC the best :)

I'm also hoping these babys will unlock to 20-pipe, and OC to something silly ;)

cant see them overclocking too well since theres the bridge chip to take into concideration aswell, i bought a x800xt pe just because i couldnt be bothered for the wait of the 7800GS on AGP, and it was only £180, decent price id say.. spending over £200 just wasnt an option really, If i spent over £200 I may aswell have gone pci-e..

Hi there

BFG is already at OcUK, so if you ring the sales team they will take an order off you for one and it will ship out on launch day. :)

We are also expecting XFX versions too, we might take other makes unless BFG and XFX can supply us with enough as BFG and XFX are the best NVIDIA brands on the market. :)

May not be top dog in the line up but it is AGP !!
http://theinquirer.net/?article=29246

Sapphire ships Radeon X1600PRO AGP

These are nothing special, don't be fooled by marketing as there actual real world performance is slower than an ATI Radeon X800 GTO and probably similar to 6600 GT performance, maybe a tad slower but unsure.....

P.S. We will be selling these though, just don't recommend you buy one! ;)

so just what are the chances of any agp 7800 cards being around at the end of feb? bonus time at work you see..... :p

slim to none i'm guessing....

Any of the OCUK lot have any ideas if the 7800gs will be a reasonable upgrade from a 6800gt any thoughts yet if they will be unlockable / overclockable to a reasonable speed or not?

I've got to the point where I could do with a little more graphics card power but don't really want to do a jump to PCI-e until later in the year when i'll do a AM2/DDR2/DX10 update.

I suspect wait and see is going to be the answer... ;)

Wouldn't mind a one of these AGP 7800's for my Shuttle, assuming they're single slot and the price isn't too high.

NVIDIA is set to launch GeForce 7800GS AGP in early February and it will be the highest end graphics card that users can buy for their AGP platform. There are two variants of of the 7800GS; 100 and 200 series. The higher end GeForce 7800GS 200 will be available first and the core clock is expected to hit around 400MHz. The GeForce 7800GS 100 will come later as there are some performance issues to be solved right now.

if you want one just call us.

Hah, good joke

Sorry with all due respect I don't think I've ever been able to get hold of anyone at ocuk on phones. That sort of stuff really winds me up, good companies have decent phone systems. Just as well the web-notes system is good.

Might take a look at the 7800 if the prices are right. Still disapointed there's no real top end agp, would it be that hard?

Not a joke at all you !!!

New phone system is installed and people are getting through quite easily. :)

Between £220 and £250, some maybe as low as £200.

I don't think its worth going from my current 128Mb 6800GT to it for a few frames here and there, think I'll just wait for AM2.

As indeed I did at lunchtime, to enquire about these cards. Quick question that I forgot to ask when I was on the phone. I've seen mentioned of 2 versions of the card, one being quicker than the other, is this true and if so what version is the BFG card you have???
