The Day of the Jackal

The Bruce Willis film was brilliant. He was absolutely brutal especially with the gun maker - I watched that jack black scene when I was much younger and it gave me nightmares.

This show is great too, only two episodes in and I’m looking forward to the rest.

I like this, despite there being a few things that are just "because its a TV show and not real" nonsense which to be entirely expected (almost entirely around the MI6 character Bianca's actions).

I haven't read the novel so I've no idea how closely this follows that, but if you've seen the 1973 Edward Fox film then its very obvious that some parts are directly lifted, literally side by side remake of identical scenes etc, but thats not bad bad thing really, just a bit "hmmm, you could have made that your own".

I'm looking forward to the rest of the season and I wonder if the end will be accurate or will a desire for a 2nd season influence it.

Watched the opener - not bad - a bit James Bond but can already tell that the home life scenes of the MI5 officer are going to be annoying - plus the girl looks older than her mother..

Plus the scenes where she gate crashes the meeting of her superiors etc and then just takes over, just so unrealistic. The strong independent, maverick woman in cop drama has been done to death at this point.

Just started watching this, two episodes in and think it's fantastic. The only thing annoying me is

Her family and the guilt trip everytime her phone rings. I'd be like, this is my job so either accept it or leave. They probably don't know she's 007 (in my mind!) but doesn't matter, she has an important job so stop bitching.

It's like they told her to act the same way she did in Bond and it's jarring at times. The amount of plot armour she's got in this too is laughable.

I like it, apart from the actress that plays Bianca. She's just not a good actress in my opinion, and isn't believable in the role. The over the top/manufactured friction and confrontation among the intelligence officers and heads is also over the top and gets a bit "hammy".

Love all the scenes with Redmayne and his wife etc.

Bit silly in places. The show seems to like to think it's being clever and accurate with weapons/guns etc, but then has Bianca firing about 200 rounds non stop from one standard magazine into a river like Rambo....

Music supervisor is all over the place. Some really good picks to accompany scenes and some that are just way off.

Not exceptional, but generally quite watchable, especially the assassin bits.

We are 3 episodes in.

I thought his wife and her mum/brother went a bit far by breaking in to his room. A normal person would probably call the husband and say "Why have you got a hidden room behind a mirror"?

Pretty much what I'm thinking - I like the Redmayne scenes, both his home life and as an assassin, but the Bianca storyline is extremely poorly written and that drags the series down far more than it should be compared with the quality of Redmayne's scenes.
