The Day of the Jackal

One issue I have with the plot, is why killing that bloke would stop River being released.

Wouldnt he have a contingency? He seems to have a loyal inner circle who could release it even if he was assassinated.

I'm enjoying it but yes, there are holes here there and everywhere. I'm also somewhat stupefied why they've announced a renewal which sort of removes the spectacle of seeing the jackal fly in to a wall from machine gun fire. Hohum.

And whoever that poster was suggesting the Willis atrocity being the original needs to be submitted for re-education!

Been enjoying this so far, one thing that bugs me though is, i really dont see some high end hit man allowing himself to get distracted by letting family into his life.
This is the one thing I don't really like about it. The whole point of the book was that The Jackal was a complete enigma, who's identity and history was never discovered. So to load him with a backstory feels a bit off.

However, aside from that, I'm really enjoying it. I think Redmayne is a great actor and casting...he bears a good resemblance to Edward Fox, pulls off that same outwardly quiet, reserved English gent but with a ruthless edge. There's lots of homages to the original film in the way he dresses, and the shot-for-shot remake of the original films rifle practice scene in episode 5 was almost perfect...even down to the camera angles and focus zooms.

I had issues with episode 7 though

They make everyone go through a body scanner and security is really tight, but some random man with a gun manages to get up on the side of the stage?
YES! I was watching the episode as I typed my last post and said the exact same thing to my girlfriend as it ended...

...she reckons it will perhaps turn out to be part of the existing security detail who'd been inside with their weapon all along. I guess we might find out in episode 8.
