You do realise that there is at least 1 case 'provenbeyond doubt' that is then actually found to be not guilty. Except you can't let them out of jail with compo, because they're dead.
You'll never have 'proof beyond doubt', it just doesn't exist. It's better that ten guilty persons escape than that one innocent suffer.

Of course it works. Dead criminals don't commit any more crime do they? Besides, a bullet is far cheaper than 10 years of housing and food costs; the perfect answer in these times of austerity.

The irony is, the people in favour of it I bet complain about Labour's massive government & authoritarianism - who then want to give the state the power to kill it's citizens, it would be funny if it wasn't so stupid.
It would be interesting to see the political alignment of those in favour & against.
I've got an inkling I can guess who those in favour vote for, but those who vote against will be from all political sides.

I doubt any law in the world could be made tight enough that only the criminals who were absolutely one hundred percent guilty of an execrably heinous crime would be subjected to the death penalty. Even if I was convinced that such a law did exist the moral issue of taking another life would still exist, and I'd likely still vote against.

Against in all circumstances. Quite how a mature society can justify murderning its own citizen is completely beyond me. Any form of physical abuse or violence by the state should be out of the question as far as I am concerned.
Glad to see the against vote coming out comfortably ahead so far. To read some threads on OCUK you would think the place was populated entirely by those with opinions to the far right.

What about a case where a boy one day over the age of consent has sex with his long term girlfriend who is 2 days younger than him. That is statutory rape. So are you going to cut his head off?

With the advances in forensics and technology it is easy to incriminate somone now. For those who have been affected by serious crime I see no reason why they should vote for anything but "For".
I was a law abiding citizen but seeing the likes of celebrities getting away with crimes because of their status makes me sick. We are all human, we all have the SAME human rights, we are all governed by the SAME laws, to be treated any differently is a crime in itself.
Criminal minded immigrants and citizens know that the country's laws are soft and will continue their acts of wickedness. Unless capital punishment is re-instated things will get worse and crimes will increase.
