Emphatically against. The state has no right to kill its own citizens in a civilised society. The death penalty fails both functions of the criminal process - to punish and to rehabilitate - and is more like revenge than justice. It does not dissuade others from committing crimes either. Thus it serves no purpose at all.

cannon fodder for the next war we are in? give them no more than a tooth pick and a packet of gum. try fight the Taliban with that boys.

but if im honest i dont think the death penalty would work even if i think some people do deserve it.

but as i said before if a person does a crime and is given life they should have life not a measly 15 years. And i belive that 15 years means no visitors no letters no gifts no nothing. well if im perfectly honest i belive all criminals in prision should have none of them. give them a whole to **** in and a window to look out nothing more

Please fully star out all swearing in future. Thank you.

There is a neat test for this: If you can't personally put someone to death purely on the whim of a jury of plebs, then you can't be for the death penalty.

If your imagination runs short: it includes killing someone who is still protesting his innocence, being killed in front of his distraught family and children.

When considering the question of the death penalty, too many people do it on the basis of 100% guilt. However, it would ultimately be done on the whim of a jury, who can get things wrong.

And that's a natural human emotion but that's also why victims families are not the ones who decide peoples fate.
This.

The argument.

"You would want them dead if they killed somebody you loved!" - is an utterly flawed argument.

Just because person A want's person B to die, it does not mean they should.

Grieving family members are not known for having the ability to think rationally & logically.

No, but because they deserve the same fate they inflicted on someone esle.
What about innocent people who are put to death?, do the family members of that person deserve to see the Jury who killed them executed also?.

I never said to kill innocent poeple. Sometimes its 100% who is guilty, there the ones that should be put to death, any where there is any doubt should be locked in a dark hole with a bucket and a daily serving of some bland bargain basement food, maybe even put to work repairing roads.

But if they are convicted by a jury of their peers doesn't that mean, in the eyes of the law, that they are 100% guilty? As I was told when i did jury service, if you have any reasonable doubt you must acquit
.
Also do we have a responsible press who don't taint jury pools?

And neither does serving your life in prison. Im all for revenge, i would want a killer of say a member of my family dead.

I would like them to pay the ultimate price also, however not at the hands of the state......if I couldn't do it myself I wouldn't want someone doing it for me, better to lock them up.
