***The DigitalFoundry Face Off Thread***

Methinks somebody who got a non-reference R9 290 4GB has gotten relatively good value for money - that card is nearing its third year since release.

Nice, cheers mate! Iv'e just been looking at it xim4 or something. Seen some vids and it looks great! Want to buy it now haha. But it seems pricey at a 3 digit pound number. (not sure if i can post prices etc)

Going to give it some thought as this could potentially get my back to playing console a bit more.

It might be a good option for 1080p gaming on a PS4 Pro.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to grab a pro as there's quite a few Playstation titles I'd like to try and I'll be using it was a HD ready tv (only 720p) which means it should manage decent performance but I'm still staying with PC gaming, Yes we get crappy releases but thankfully everyone tends to scream and rage all over the internet and it gets fixed eventually and at the end of the day there's no contest, PC gaming is superior. While the consoles are now looking better than they did they don't have it good, Think about having a new console with hardly any games for the first year or so while they fed you so called remastered versions of games you'd bought before, That'd result in making you now feel like you are being done a solid in backwards compatibility.

No, PC gaming all the way. Especially for older gamers like myself who want to still be able to play there games 10 or 20 years down the road. The way the consoles business used to run was by looking at it as a short term investment by kids parents until the kids grow out of it and move on to adult things. That's all changed but there catching up slowly.

In short summary, Native DX12 games are better on Nvidia like Gears of War 4, Gears of War Ultimate, Forza Apex, Forza Horizon 3. Games ,which has DX12 and DX11 option is better on AMD with DX12, however it is not faster then Nvidia on DX11 with its counter parts.

Are there any native dx12 games yet???

Translation: Games with DX12 features that are developed with Nvidia's support favour Nvidia gpu's more often than not,

So basically nothings changed :D

EDIT: And vice versa of course

Again you are out of topic. I am talking about your post ,which you said that in Forza Horizon 3 RX 470 is near GTX 1060 performance ,which is not true. In fact, RX 470 and GTX 970 has similar performance in the video that showed you and GTX 1060 is around 30% to 40% faster.

Well i can show you a review where it is but i will count that one out as the majority have the 1060 and RX480 pretty equal with the 1060 being marginally faster.

Gears of Wars 3 has the 480 and 1060 Match for match TBH

Forza 3 just got a performance update two days ago benchmarks will need re-doing.

Gears is a funny one, because its built very close with Nvidia and using the hardware to its max on DX12 and yet its still neck and neck with the AMD GPU. Plus we then have what Nvidia calls Async Compute VS what AMD calls Async Compute. Gears is meant to not even be using the same Async compute has say Doom for example.

It is gears of war 4.

I showed you the video with equal settings on 1080p with OC. What do you want me to show?

Well your bottom link shows the RX470 faster than the gtx1060 at HQ and around 10% slower than it at VHQ. The RX480 would most likely be faster than the gtx1060 at VHQ looking at those numbers. It's not a good game to show case atm due to the game being a bit of a mess. There has just been a patch to improve performance so those numbers mean nothing now.
