The Division 2 - March 2019

I'll be playing this solo, maybe with the wife, we enjoyed TD1, but neither of us got hooked. After we tried Warframe but didn't get into it, then Anthem which was a total disaster (to be expected) we don't have many games to play together.

However, I will be certainly playing this solo regardless. And I prefer it that way, going into the dark zone solo and waiting to pick people off was some of the most fun I've ever had however that was early game. Not sure how this game will fair up if you're going at it solo end game.

ANYWAY, my point is, some people swear down that MP is the only way to enjoy games these days. It's just not true.

But if the game is designed for mp?

Stop telling people the experience is far far better in coop then. Simple

He isnt saying the game cannot be enjoyed if playing solo... he is saying that IN HIS OPINION he gets more enjoyment out of playing with someone else than he does solo

i dont understand why him saying that bothers you so much?

i mainly play solo in most games and yet there is some games where solo just isnt any fun for me and its much better to team up

Beats me why it bothers so much, I play games the way I like them, cant say that I get bothered by anyone who says a game fits a different playstyle. I may disagree with them from my viewpoint but it wouldn't bother me, far more important things in life to be bothered about than someone who disagrees with me on a video games playstyle.

I find that the best way to handle anyone who says I should say or do a certain thing is to use the same method that I do with vegan activists. Smile, agree with them (as usually they just want to see people acquiesce to them) until they move on and then tuck into my steak :)

To be fair it bothered you enough to write a longish post :)

Reading about steak though has made me mighty hungry, cheese sandwich I guess :(

I also play TD solo only, and in fact enjoy it a lot more than having to do co-op, because I play it for getting immersed into the world and mess around. In co-op the competitive element overtakes everything and then it's all about min-max and just upping the score, so to speak. I stopped enjoying that sort of gaming a long time ago.

That's one of the advantages of co-oping with my missus or our friends only, that way there is no competitive element, its just about us working together to overcome, none of us care about min-max or upping a score, just working together to achieve the mission goals. For me imo, nothing beats a good co-operative game with family and friends, best gaming there is imo. Though I do appreciate a really well done single player story based game too. Everyone is different though, all comes down to who you play with imo.

Its the reason I like to play games by myself.

When you play with other people, you cannot take in the surroundings, be slow etc. Have to match the pace, even taking a break need to ask permission. Its too competitive.
In the beta when i called for backup, the guy after reviving me ran very aggressively against the enemy, and it isnt my style but he rescued me so I felt obliged to back him up, so I was playing in a different way I wanted to at that point.

Excluding the PVP element, i just don't really see the competitive side with co-op play in TD1? So i'm not too sure where people are getting worried.

I only started TD1 a couple of weeks ago, so haven't really found anyone to coop with so have relied on matchmaking. Coop gameplay in missions works very well, there's no competition there because you all have the same goal, any loot drops or mission rewards are unique to you, so it's not like you're fighting with your coop team to get the better weapon/armour/item etc.

I also coop'd in the darkzone with other players i had bumped into. Had some quite nice sessions of roaming and extracting out a number of items. At lower levels i found trying to solo in the DZ very difficult, and whilst you might survive fighting a batch of enemies to fill up your contaminated inventory, you've still gotta go through the painstaking process of extracting the items which obviously attracts unwanted attention from a number of enemies. A lot of that makes it very fun whilst in coop.

Personally i think you can enjoy the game both solo and coop.

Dunno about competitive to the degree he is talking about - those that do that tend to be self-contained clans anyhow - but if you are playing with randoms at higher difficulty setting it is annoying when someone hasn't got a reasonably well put together setup and/or ignores what the other 3 players are trying to achieve.

Personally I find the game much more enjoyable post level 30 in coop - unfortunately they've not really given it the City of Heroes type treatment where both solo and coop were equally enjoyable at end game.

Yeah i guess i can see your point.

I will say i have noticed doing coop legendary missions on world tier 5 that some groups we've zipped through missions, whereas other groups it's taken significantly longer to progress through the mission.

I don't mind either way, although if the whole team dies and it restarts from the beginning or from a major checkpoint a fair way back, then people tend to just quit which is rather frustrating, as when you then search via matchmaking again, you end up with half of the same team again :D. I'd guess this will be less of an issue with TD2 on launch as there will be many more players playing the game.

Clear Sky is an interesting one in that respect - with 4 people using the right setup and know how to do it you can clear it in like 2 minutes flat - with people who have no idea how to do it and ignore those that do it can take an hour of fails before either everyone quits or you finally do it.

Some of the newer legendaries if the team wipes you lose the bonus hunter and drop if you don't properly restart the whole thing. If you get too many people who aren't doing things right/too low level it becomes an exercise in frustration.

Won't lie as I find it quite frustrating as while I am not the best at picking things up on the first attempt I will try and understand what I'm doing wrong and improve but you see too many people who are still trying the same failed approach 3 months and 10+ instances of being matchmade with them later :(
