Here's my review thus far,
I believe I have completed 95% of the main content of what is on offer in the beta, unless more side missions unlock or there is something I've missed around the Dark Zones. Overall it's a good game, combat is good, weapons feel nice and the sounds actually sound good, the starting missions are OK, nothing too exciting but allows for some good single play action and party play, was great fun doing the "second" mission as a squad of 4, albeit we rushed at one part and I went down!
I would like to see a variety in the enemies and encounters, 90% of enemies seem to be hooded looters or the flame thrower guys which got a bit boring, I assume there will be different enemies the further into the game we get which should be fun. The AI walking the streets could be a bit more "lively", they'll happily walk around with no reaction to you mowing down 10 enemies or have some non-fitting dialogue as you walk passed. They didn't seem to fit very well IMO.
Graphics are decent, nothing too crazy but it's an open world RPG, AAA title graphics wouldn't be my expectation, the foggy snowy nights and the clear sky morning look awesome none the less, so won't complain.
Performance is pretty good as well, my single 680 can push 40FPS on a mixture between high/ultra, SLI is not working very well for me, with constant drops to 0-10 FPS regardless of the area, however SLI 680 can push 60 FPS at near Ultra settings which was a nice thing to see.
Am I hyped for it's release? - Not sure, unless the main storyline grabs you or there's a variety of content I can see myself getting quite bored of the similar styled; go here and kill this person/do this object for loot (but it's a RPG so that's how they work!). The Dark Zones are fun however it got a bit tiresome being shot from behind consistently when ducking in cover for a second, or when you've just worked as a team to defeat some hard enemies and then get rinsed down. I suppose that's the nature of it all, but head on combat was fun, being mowed down from behind was not.
What was fun, was taking the high ground with a rifle and killing people running passed and getting a friend to cover, worked surprisingly well, but got boring as nobody came near our area eventually.
Rating so far... 6/10. I'm not gripped, but will play some more beta this weekend.
The Shaun of the Dead / Hot Fuzz flashback was hilarious to find though!
