The Division. Are we interested?

You can get by in the dark zone solo you just need a bit of patience and set up your perks. Use radar and health. If you start an extraction in a quiet zone then you're asking to get done over.

Go to an existing extraction, stay at a distance until it's close to arriving, see who's there. If it's just one or two people with gear (you can see the yellow packs under their rucksack), they probably just want their gear out, run in when they do and hook your gear on.

If it's a busy zone and there are a lot of people extracting and going rogue, wait til another extraction happens, and do your own on the other side of the map.

It's definitely easier in a group but you can go solo ok.

Well, I'm happy the engine and core mechanics are good. I like how customisable your character is, your stats make a huge difference to the way you play. You can actually properly make a complimentary squad with classic RPG roles, tank, dps, healing etc.

I just hope there is a good solid single player aspect, which makes just roaming around the normal PvE worthwhile (crafting?). A decent chunk of story missions to play through, and some extension of the Dark Zone mechanics, so there's actually more stuff to do in there.

Main thing I do NOT want is any kind of weekly reset grinding shenanigans or other time-gating crap.

I've probably spent 5+ hours in the DZ playing solo and never really had a problem. I've run across a few groups who were going rouge, but you can see them coming on the map so just keep clear of them.

Also there is more to the game than the DZ. You can match make with other people on the main mission.

Was probably a random incident but first time entering the DZ and that crap happens leaves a horrible impression.

The grenade launcher is literally one of the first things you get? It barely does any damage to players too.

in the DZ, level 1-7 play together, doesn't really mean anything, theres no level advantage to the pvp aspect, but they may well have better gear if they farmed enoygh DZ points.

I've yet to stumble into an underbarrel launcher, so i presume your talking about the tech tree skill. It wont one shot you (unless you gear is bad i guess) bnut it will hurt if they get it on you.

No idea what it was but it did loads of damage but to be honest I haven't messed around with my inventory yet.

Are there different types of loot? All I can manage to get is the ones when you encounter pve? How many coloured ruck sacks are there in total?

As a solo player you have 0 advantage nor any way to even the odds. You can't even tell which players are grouped together nor can you detect players with the scan skill unless they're rogues, but then they're on the map anyways so it's completely moot and I guess proximity voip gives them away.

The pvp area can be dull, it is too sparse with NPCs. It makes it too much about pvp where I wish you were more pushed to PVE with the threat of PVP. Where as the pve area is pretty good but I do wish there were more missions but I guess it's a beta limitation.

It its pretty obvious there's a LOT more content coming. Since you can only build so much out of the wings in the beta which lots more unlocks for them.

I did however manage to play in the DZ for a while today with some developers and it much better but still a repetitive, predictable experience.

Got my character wearing and using all blue items now, got a few purple weapons, but still waiting for the elusive Legendary yellow item. I will get one before end of the beta.

Still loving the game I really am. Yeah the beta is empty and the DZ could have so much more in it, but I'm confident those things will be better in full game.

so last game I exited whilst I was in the pve area in my base and when I went back to the game I started in the dz again but with all my contaminated loot which extracting on my own is asking for trouble. It then did one single item at a time. Bug?

So, The Division, after all the low expectation ranting from some - including myself - is it any good?...

I'll start by saying the graphics are infact very good, to get the most out of it I think you need to max the settings which I am lucky to do, at 1440 res and a SweetFX profile Im tinkering with the game does look stunning at different points in the game. Im glad to be proved wrong after the PC graphics debate as it means the game looks very polished graphically. Maybe after a few tweaks have surfaced once it is released we might be able to edge back towards the old E3 footage. Having said that, at times it really is eye candy and there hasnt been the 'downgrade' I was expecting. So for that, well done Ubisoft.

HOWEVER (lol), what does concern me is some of the other little things that could indicate a potentially shallow game world and fall into the same trap as Destiny. Will it have enough varied content to keep the fans happy, I think varied is the key here as it could just turn into another go here, grind through lots of enemies, reach objective, repeat affair. Something which I did find a very weird design choice was not being able to kill/harm human NPC's which to me lowers the world immersion somewhat. So why can we kill animals and not humans? Considering the environment is hostile outside the safe zones, NPC's should be able to get caught in cross fire when a fire fight breaks out, the player should also be penalised for harming NPC's but making them invincible seems silly.

Anyway, I recorded some gameplay and made a video called the Beta Journey, just something I put together today, unfortunately it dosent have the SweetFX Im tinkering with, I only had K-Putts at the time, more on that tomorrow. Check it out below:

Great video neoglow, really stunning!

I had a lot of fun tonight with a few folk from here but we too were talking about how this can fail if there isn't enough content to keep everyone coming back.

The problem we were having, besides raven_uk_1 (sorry raven, don't know your forum name on here) shooting other players "in error" :p, was the lack of NPC's in the DZ. We would be spending ages just wandering around as a group looking for something to do.

Spent a great hour and a bit in the Dark Zone and managed to get to level ten and got two blue weapons and a couple of other bits too. Thanks to Tony, Hazard, Westie and Nexus tonight. DZ is where the tension happens but by communicating and working as a team we managed to deal with everything thrown at us.

Oh and Crispy too!

The Beta has surprised many, me included with it's visuals & general smoothness of gameplay.
I've hit a couple of bad bugs, but they cured themselves after an ALT+TAB and a couple of client restarts.

Pleasantly surprised by a Ubisoft title, but as others have said my concern is the depth and longevity of the game as it could get old very quickly and having no access to crafting limits aspects of the game that in my eyes could be key to playing it for a long time.

Game is stunning, can't believe ppl are saying it's average looking lol. Even with the downgrade, I'd say this is top 5 best looking games ever.

At 1440p and Ultra with a Sweetfx profile as shown below it's a beaut of a game. The lighting is so atmospheric, especially at night in a heavy blizzard.

I'm re-assured by the amount of stuff that's still locked out in the UI and base of operations.

The thing that really encourages me is how much the stats affect your character. You can completely alter them from mega-tank with zero DPS or healing, to classic glass cannon, and everything in between. Very refreshing after how thin the RPG element of Destiny is.

With this level of customisation I can see PvE content being created that is really going to stress the importance of a well balanced team setup.
