C:\Users\snoop\Documents\My Games\Skyrim
edit skyrimprefs

and change these
bTreesReceiveShadows=0
bDrawLandShadows=0

to
bTreesReceiveShadows=1
bDrawLandShadows=1

it makes the game world look much better and less cartoony , also open the console and change the FOV
im using 75 i think it was the game must default to something like 65

just type
fov 75 (or whatever number you want)

for a pc game some of the textures are shocking and im not just talking about the walls lol..

Correct me if I'm wrong, but arent you the person who was previously stating that my PC is overspecified for gaming, yet here you are banging on about graphics not being good enough?

Have you ever played a TES game before? Do you know that the graphics in these games get vastly improved via community mods very quickly?

The reason why the vanilla games graphics are 'shocking' is because the game has to be designed to run on peoples systems with as 'shocking' specs as yours.

If youre the wrong person I apologize, but I'm pretty sure it was you.

On topic - I caved in and used the VPN - Constant 60 FPS without any dips in MSI afterburner's FPS bar maxed out on my SLI GTX 560 Ti's.

Overspecified my ***. Me <3 constant 60 FPS gameplay.

And wheres that other numpty gone saying that this, and other games need more than 1 Gb Vram to run smoothly without any lag spikes lol.

no but when your roaming around in a pretty believable world and you come across a bear or a wolf that looks like it was created in ms paint it breaks the whatsit called (my mind has gone blank and ive been sat here for 5minutes trying to think of the word...)

the ui is pretty terrible and was obviously designed for a xbox controller which is even one of the options... use xbox controller tick/untick box

turn the view speed or look speed whatever retarded name they have choosen for mouse sensitivity.... for some reasons its set uber low and feels horrible but if u notice the bar up a good whack it gets rid of the wierd mouse lag feeling

Immersion.

Anyone got any screenshots at 2560 x

Oblivion looked stunning.

If this game doesn't better it.... well I'm selling my rig and monitor and giving up PC gaming for good.

The bears and wolves definitely dont look like they were made in MS paint, nor do they look cartoony to me.

In fact Skyrim is extremely less cartoony than Oblivion was, I dont get how anyone can actually call this game cartoony ....

Unless you ordered and are playing Oblivion by mistake.

Oblivion is not cartoony either. In fact can you use both HDR and AA on Oblivion?

Ok then, just for you - the game looks crap. Sell your rig and give up PC gaming, and play games on the crapbox 360 instead ;)

Yes you have been able to forever. It was only Nvidia Geforce 7000 range that couldnt.

Oblivion is not cartoony either.

I agree, I think Arknor must be playing WoW. Oblivion was just more 'colourful' and bright. I guess thats why people dont like the look of Skyrim as much, they need sunshine, rainbows, lollipops and adoring fans to enjoy the graphics :p

We gonna have to wait for a DarNified UI for Skyrim, i always used these UI for Oblivion and Fallout 3, makes the game a lot better. Looking forward to see what the Modding community can do with this game :)

Is anyone able to share a VPN trial please? Securevpn arn't taking any more registrations and no-one else seems to have a remotely sane price.

Email in trust if you can find it in your heart. ;)

Well the game actually plays a lot better with an Xbox 360 controller on the PC, and I really dont mind at all. It really does make it a much better gameplay experience than clicking through massive spreadsheets and menus with the mouse.

Funny that TW2 was also designed for the controller over the mouse + keyboard, and was also DX9, but everyone loved that game simply because it came out on the PC first.

Will Skyrim support mods though. Some of the mods for Oblivion like Darnified UI were fantastic. I hope they don't go down the Blizzard route of not supporting mods like Diablo 3.

Hmm wonder if I need to patch mine up. Just tried very quick and if I select one it tells me they can't both be on and deselects the other.

Time to search for the patches I think.

You cant enable them both using the ingame settings - You enable HDR ingame, and force AA through the driver.

Not being able to run HDR + AA at the same time was a limitation only on Nvidia hardware at the time, and for some absurd reason Bethesda stupidly made this incompatibility an in game feature!

Thanks for that, might just invest in one :)

thats the one thanks :D

its blatantly obvious some textures have been sacraficed for consoles , i dont mind the odd wall that looks dodgy close up but when its an animal your fighting that looks like it was painted by a child.......

yes i have played a TES game before i remember morrowind very fondly one of the first games to feature pixel shaded water :eek:

yea which is why the game has various different settings that can be changed so even a low spec pc can run the game.

beeing on ultra setting with HIGH textures selected should not give you bears , wolves , cows etc that look like crap compared to pretty much everything else in the game..
ill take some screenshots the next time i come across one so you can see.

btw my "shocking spec" pc runs the game on ultra @ 1920x1080 with 4x aa @ 40-60fps ...

the reason im still running a "shockingly bad" GTX460 1gb card is because so far i havent felt the need to upgrade yet my bank balance is more than capable of taking the hit..
you seem to think im some poor person who cant afford to upgrade :rolleyes:

yet im wasting hundreds of quid on RC car stuff....

my pc is "shocking" because i dont see the point in upgrading when so far no game has needed it.

when a game comes i need to update for ill gladly spend money on a new gfx card

Will Skyrim support mods though.

What makes you think it wont? The SDK will be coming out around the end of November / early December - Bethesda wanted people to play the vanilla game first for a bit.

you seem to think im some poor person who cant afford to upgrade :rolleyes:

No, I'm simply calling out your Irony of having a rather low specced PC while complaing about graphics in Skyrim, and calling other peoples PCs 'overspecified'.

You cant run Civ V at 60 FPS constant. You cant actually run Skyrim at 60 FPS constant. Yet you whinge and whine about the graphics.

The base graphics in any TES game has never been outstanding, compared to the previous games Skyrim's textures are brilliant. The textures are always improved through mods.

btw my "shocking spec" pc runs the game on ultra @ 1920x1080 with 4x aa @ 40-60fps ...

1) Try getting a 1920x1200 monitor at least instead of a console / TV standard resolution.
2) Try increasing the AA up 8x
3) Go into the settings file that you referred to earlier and enable transparent AA which should also apply 8x AA to the shadows
4) Then come back here and tell me that your PC still plays the game well :rolleyes:
