The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

very simple mod will sort that, like they done for oblivion.

True that, it would have been nice to have it as standard, though. I didn't have the open cities when it first came out as my PC was poo, so I had to make do.

Bit melodramatic:p LOL;)

Not really, I was hoping that they wouldn't have cities as instances, it's due in part to my dislike of how Oblivion (to me) felt very small with the way the landscape tended to funnel down to the Imperial City, and that all the cities were sectioned off.

Kinda broke the immersion a little.

I'm not saying it's going to ruin the game completely, lol, I clocked so many hours on Oblivion and Morrowind, but I was kinda waiting to be told that they've have the cities under instance-lock.

Oh well, I hope for a quickly released mod. :3

I imagine because its much harder to prevent monsters wandering into open cities and raising hell. Especially when said monster is a very strong levelled version.

Levitation was stupid, lets be honest. It had the odd use like navigating House Telvanni and reaching the odd 'out of reach' cave, but mostly it was used to bypass absolutely everything in the game.

Plus, in the world it is set in, you would expect cities to have some kind of defenses imo.
Fair enough if you found it less immersive for some reason Gackt. I didn't personally though. There will no doubt be an open cities mod for you anyway:)

Aye, I enjoyed Morrowind in that I was able to seamlessly travel from the wilderness into the city. I enjoyed it. It felt more 'real' than clicking on a door, and waiting through a load screen. Especially in towns/cities that had lots of houses. And it is no doubt in part due to the multi-platform nature of the series now where there are limits to the consoles abilities. It's a shame, but that's fine. As you have said, there'll be a mod, and even if there wasn't, I'll be getting it.

Who knows how they'll do it, anyway, it might involve some form of phasing, or they'll disguise it, or maybe it'll just be the click door and load screen, that's fine.

It's not a game-breaker, and I've never even hinted that it would be. I just expressed my disdain at the closed cities.

This is the most important difference from Oblivion as far as walled cities go, really - Oblivion's Cyrodiil was a much less rugged, more civilised setting than Skyrim. Considering the civil war background, the dragons, and the more unique architecture I think they can design walled-in cities pretty seamlessly this time around.

The thing about Morrowind... its the most unrealistic setting for open cities. They had the blight pouring down from the mountain, barely contained by the gigantic wall. Monsters wandering wild all over that could spread disease and blight disease. Port towns with no defences up. Very low walls with open gates and no way of closing them.

Sounds like a night out in Woolwich.

i don't mind walled in cities so much (though it was a tad distracting) it was the way that you'd have 5/6 different areas in the main city that i really didn't like as often you'd need to go from opposite ends so just forever seeing a loading screen.

I really hope this turns our good!

Didn't play Morrowind but I loved Oblivion.

Morrowind was fantastic, and to be honest was even better than oblivion. there is an updated version of morrowind kicking about somewhere.

It may look a bit dated now but if you havent played it then you really should :)

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim director Todd Howard provided further information on Skyrim in his interview here, discussing races, dungeons, AI, and new creatures. The more Betheda says on this title, the more my anticipation grows. Currently, Elder: Scrolls V: Skyrim is scheduled to release November 11, for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
