The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

I must be the only person who didn't restart the game, and only has one character:p

Not gonna play it again until the first expansion comes out I think. The most I will do until then is play around with some mods.

Anyone else suffering bugs since the last patch? Everytime I exit a building I get about 1 FPS, I have to back in and then out again hoping that it resumes to normal :(

I often get that, where the FPS plummits when I move to a new cell (like going into a dungeon). I'm pretty sure it's a memory leak. I've found that pausing the game, then tabbing out and then back again fixes it.

yeah often just hitting F5 to quicksave is enough to restore the FPS. I don't even have to reload.

I only have one Character: Oric, the Imperial Battlemage :)

I was going to restart as a Dark Elf but I played so many of them in Morrowind (played through 6 times, with 4 Dunmer, 1 Altmer and 1 Argonian) that I thought it was time for a change, plus the bonuses suit the play style I've chosen. :)

BTW I've just been to the Mage's college and I already want to kill that annoying Khajeet...

You must be weird :p

I've got 4 now ><
A mage that took me 25 hours to reach ~lvl22 on Expert then decided I wanted to try out the melee combat. A warrior that took me 9 hours to reach ~lvl17 till I got tired of every creature wiping the floor with me and overpowered boss-like melee fighters killing me in 3 hits or with a finishing move while on 75% health. So decided to play Sneak Ranger w/ Alchemy and took 35 hours to reach lvl34 before becoming too tempted to try out an Illusion focused pickpocket on Master who is now lvl12 after 5 hours.

Illusion was definitely worth restarting for. The Wounded Frostbite Spider you fight in Bleak Falls Barrow was quite a tough enemy... till I used Fear on it. Then it just ran away from me, tried to hide in a corner while I wailed on it with a dagger and Fury is getting some serious lols so far. Watching bandits kill each other than running in with a flamethrower and torching them both :D

I found mele combat quite satisfying tbh, but only sword and shield. At first I wanted to go dual-wielding axes, but you can't defend yourself enough imo. In the end I played most of the game with the Ebony war axe and shield of Solitude.

Early on in the game I played quite a bit with axe/spell and that worked ok, but again I found myself being killed too easily.

Next play I will definitely try a bit more magic, and properly level archery as I ended up with only a few perks in it even though I used it a lot. I think I will have to try and specialize a bit more. I ended up not maxing a single skill tree, I spread points all over the place

I am struggling... I feel very fragile :(

I am playing an assassin at the moment, level 18 with 'prestine' dual elven daggers and TDB leather armor, everytime I get caught out of stealth I feel like a mouse under a car tyre... Playing on Adept.

Previously with my old (now deleted char) at the same level with dual orcish swords and heavy armor, I would own! But not this character, all my skill levels are correct...

Melee combat just gets the worst of bethesda's usual borked level scaling system. Sneak you won't even notice since everything dies long before it sees you, if it doesn't you have a lot of backup plans to get out of it. Mage, so long as you keep everything away from you with Impact it hardly matters. But melee... I know I'm on Expert (and when I go back... Master ><), but creatures kill me without even trying and my armour makes no difference at all and the more powerful bosslike NPCs kill me so fast that again, the armour makes no difference.

I was playing one up from adept and once I had put a few skills in block, I could suck up quite a bit of damage with my shield. I thought it was quite good actually as I really had to time blocks etc as without blocking I was very vulnerable. Shield bash is also very useful(though maybe slightly OP when maxed)

Just thought that a nice mod would be throwing axes, especially if they embed themselves into the target's forehead on a killing blow and are recoverable. :D

Don't forget throwing knives. I vaguely remember Morrowind having Darts and Throwing Stars though they were never any use since the decent ones were so few in number and the weaker ones did hardly any damage.

Fingers crossed for a mod that adds Throwing Weapons to the One-Handed tree (or turns Archery into Marksman and uses that instead) and adding Spears/Pole-arms to the Two-Handed tree.

Good point! I thought the throwing stars in Mororwind were a bit of a wasted opportunity to be honest. It'd be good to see them make a return so that people can play a proper ninja. :)

Polearms and swords being usable whilst riding a horse Mount & Blade Style would be awesome too.

Yea, I was miffed when I saw that combat on horse back was not possible :(

Even if it was pants it would allow you to at least get stuck in before unmounting. Even if the AI had something silly like a 40% chance of knocking you off with each hit.

There was a mod for Oblivion which added a Scythe! It was great as you could do a sweep if you got swarmed, i would like to see that.

Use it with the DB robe and you look pretty cool:p

I haven't restarted either. I spent waaayyy too long making mine to start again :p.

I started again, but I shamelessly used the console to level up. :p I got my first character to about level 65 legitimately, and I just can't be bothered doing all that again. I've only made her slightly more powerful than my first one though.
